Yeah, I'm getting the sense that Backlund could be on the move. I'm not sold that the Backlund we saw in games 55-82 last season is the same Backlund we'll see from start to finish this year... Maybe Columbus is.

As for Hartnell, it would be great seeing him in a Flames uniform!
Could send him after the "double guns" fan in Anaheim, in the same fashion he did to the Hulk Hogan wannabe in Pittsburgh.

Perhaps Jankowski is the 3rd liner centre in the long-run, or you find that piece elsewhere.

Top talent wins you rings. The Flames need more of it.
Couldn't agree more. Backlund is a great third line guy but if you can move him for a player 9 years younger that will more than likely be a top line RW you do it every day of the week.

I'd add another 2nd if required, in order to get Pulijarvi who would no doubt be the best player in the deal.

^Depends. If it is 35 then no. They can have both late 2nds though.

6+Backlund+2nd would make me a little sad.
How about
6+Colborne+2nd or
6+Colborne+two 2nds
Instead?

I love Backlund. He's one of my favourite players, think he's super underrated as a 3rd line center in this league. And you win with players like Backlund on your bottom 6.

But its hard not to like what our scouts have been picking out of the talent pool the last few years. If the Flames are actually trying hard to move up (and have the Flames ever moved up in the last 20 years?) then I feel the scouting department must be putting the pressure on. They must be pretty high on Puljujarvi.

Yeah, that makes sense… IF you place zero value on the #6 overall pick. That's kind of a large throw-in.

I think the last time they moved up - it was to get Kidd.

I'd give them all 3 2nds and Backlund.
When the opportunity presents itself to acquire a potential game changer for our 1st, 3 lottery tickets and a 3rd liner, I think it's an easy call. This will likely be the last time we have a draft pick as valuable as 6oa for quite some time.

110% agree!!!!!!!!

The cupboards aren't bare anymore...could afford to risk those picks.

Not really over Brodeur. Everyone had Kidd ranked higher at the time. It isn't lik Brodeur went a couple spots later.
Didn't work in for them, but at the time - it was the right call.

Hartnell wouldn't be a throw-in for me. Yes, he has a decent sized contract, but he'd be pretty valuable for the next year or two. The #3 pick and Hartnell for #6 and bunch of other stuff? Yes please.

Well 9 spots later and the very next goalie taken so it still stings haha, but I agree. Right move at the time

If anything Columbus needs a peice they wouldn't have to protect. Backlund would just use up Hartnell's spot for the expansion draft protection list.

The amount to available protection slots is what is important to them. Much more likely they take the picks
