Not really offseason related, but I had the opportunity to catch most of an interview yesterday on NFL Network Radio (Sirius 88) with HOFer Bud Grant. This guy is 89 years old and he is as sharp as he was when he was coaching. Complete pleasure to listen to him talk and to share his view of Buddy Ryan's impact on defensive football in the NFL. It was hilarious hearing him talk about how many assistant coaches they have these days compared to his day and how much of what is done by computer now they used to do by hand.
The image of him walking to midfield last year for the coin flip in the playoff game between the Vikings and Seahawks in -20(? I forget the actual temperature, but COLD) weather in just a polo shirt will stick with me forever. One of the classic coaching figures in NFL history and a guy that is synonymous with the Vikings.

No way really?
Quote:
Quarterback Johnny Manziel has been suspended four games for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy, a source confirmed to ESPN.
TMZ Sports first reported news on Manziel's suspension.
Manziel, 23, is a free agent after being released by the Cleveland Browns earlier this year.
His four-game suspension becomes effective immediately. If he signs with a team, Manziel would be suspended for the first four games of the 2016 season and conceivably could play in Week 5.
But Manziel also could face additional discipline under the personal conduct policy for other transgressions, including being charged with assaulting his girlfriend, sources told ESPN.

Johnny also gave himself a drop dead partying date of tomorrow. So starting tomorrow, clean and sober Johnny (yeah right lol...4th of July weekend?)

So if you don't know who Miko Grimes is, you don't follow Twitter very much. But this woman is ####ing crazy at the craziest level possible. She made some anti-Semetic remarks online, and Jay Glazer responded and she responded back...
...seriously how does Brent put up with it? She is gonna get him cut.

She is crazy but I read he original "anti-semetic" tweet and it is anything but that.

Gotta respect ross for keeping his jew buddies employed but did he not see how tannenbaum put the jets in the dumpster w/that sanchez deal?

She explains her tweet.

"When I wrote 'jew buddies' I was speaking about how a lot of communities (Jewish, Christian, gay, sometimes fraternities and sororities) will hire their 'own people' for jobs before others. That's a fact! Why people find facts offensive is strange to me. And now im a racist? Lmao! How?"
|
I gotta agree with her, anyone who doesn't is lying to themselves. A lot of places will hire their "own".

She is right though, Tannehill sucks. Also she's not racist or anti-semite, she's just a loud mouth.

Brady will have to serve his 4 game suspension after his appeal was denied.
Quote:
Appellees, National Football League Players Association and Tom Brady, filed a petition
for panel rehearing, or, in the alternative, for rehearing en banc. The panel that determined the
appeal has considered the request for panel rehearing, and the active members of the Court have
considered the request for rehearing en banc.
IT IS HEREBY ORDERED that the petition is denied.

Sorry Tom but you aren't above the consequences of cheating. Sure it was only deflating balls but how many players have been suspended for having weed in their system that has even less bearing on the outcome of a game? It is what it is. I hope he accepts his punishment so we can all move on from this as all he's doing is dragging down his legacy fighting a losing battle.

No need. Every fan that isn't a Patriots sycophant looks at that gif and walks away like they've just been felt up by an 80 year old man in a trench coat.

IMO that's too much guaranteed for a non-QB. I love the deal as a Raiders fan though.

Why? You should probably hate it considering that'll be the baseline for Mack when its time for his new deal, with Mack likely to get an even bigger deal.

The Suh contract was a massive mistake on the Dolphins part and the Broncos are paying the price for it but fans of the rest of the league have to hope that there will be market correction as teams simply can't pay this type of money to pass rushers and fill out their roster competitively. If I was Reggie I would simply franchise him for two straight seasons and cut bait if a reasonable long term deal can't be worked out. He's from the Packers mold of management that doesn't overpay in free agency and uses the draft to supplement free agency losses.

We've been waiting for the market correction on mediocre QBs for a few years now and things actually appear to be getting worse (see the Owseiler contract). This is just the new NFL when it comes to money unfortunately. I doubt we see any correction until the cap comes down, but since it keeps growing I don't see these stupid contracts ending. Besides pass rushers are worth massive money in this era, the most pass friendly era ever. Running backs are the only place where contracts are pretty much in line with worth.

Why do you love it? Mr. Mack will be wanting more than that very, very soon.

There will never be market correction for QB's as it's the most important position. Osweiler is mediocre but there's simply not 32 quality starting QB's so teams out of desperation are going to sign QB's to these contracts.
