Apparently Yzerman asked Benning for Horvat in exchange for Drouin.
Horvat's alright, but not all that spectacular as a player. A likely future 2nd line center on a decent team. I feel that the Flames could match that using Backlund + something.

I hear there's talk of a multiple player swap with Colorado, Barrie is one name involved from Colorado.
This comes from a very good source but so far it's just "talk", we'll see.

That would make some sense. It'll be interesting to see what the whole deal is if it goes down.

He won't get anything close to Horvat at this point. You're too late Steve. Delusional if he thinks he's getting fair value.

I think it would be a fantastic deal for the Oilers. Taylor Hall would get a chance to show his leadership qualities and guide Drouin into the light. Hallsy will take him for a boat ride, they will have bananas and another Oiler superstar will shine brightly...

Why? He literally had negative leverage when trying to trade St. Louis, and he absolutely fleeced the Rangers in that deal. He's a good GM, he'll pit teams against each other and still get good value out of this.

The main reason he fleeced the Rangers on St.Louis was due to the conditions being met that maximized the value for Tampa. Had the Rangers lost to the Pens like it appeared they would the deal would have been St.Louis for Callahan (rental) +1st +2nd. Callahan signed in Tampa so they kicked back a 2nd to the Rangers and only because NY made the SCF did the 2nd become another 1st

Was he making trade offers on a fulcrum or something?

How so, Tyson Barrie is Colorado's Brodie. I can't see how that would make any sense for Colorado, it's not like they have a glut of young talent on D...

I don't see it from a Colorado perspective to trade their one good young D for another forward. Having said that Roy/Sakic have built that team in a strange way by loading up on old vets to play with their young core.
Having Drouin and Mackinnon long term does make sense though as they have proven chemistry.

Colorado is only moving Barrie if they feel they can't afford his next contract.

Yeah, Barrie doesn't seem to make much sense.
I don't watch a lot of Colorado, but when I have, it seemed that Johnson and Barrie were their top pair.
Barrie leads the team in EV TOI and he leads them in points. And they are a wasteland for points from the D, even with him.
Not only that, but they rely heavily of 4 guys for TOI, with a substantial drop-off after that. Trading Barrie would lave a huge hole that they currently can't fill.
Doesn't make any sense to me, but maybe Roy wants to fill his team with kids that he liked in the Q

Unless Tampa is sending Carle with Drouin I can't see how they could afford Barrie's next contract either?

That's the only reason that makes sense. But based on their D corp, if they don't re-sign him, they would need to replace him with a FA which would cost just as much.

I think they are deeper on the wings than most team in the NHL and are currently the hottest team in the league.
That's before considering what a poor 2-way player I think Yakupov is.
|
Kind of curious how this lineup chart does not show Jonathon Marchessault on any of the line combinations but he appears on the first powerplay unit. Kind of like Mason Raymond!

Salary is the biggest barrier for SteveY. He can take on too much salary and he needs long term savings. Otherwise he's diluting Drouin's value by adding Carle.
I can't see a scenario where SteveY wins. Not unless he accepts picks/prospects that save him money and pan out better than Drouin.

I don't think Backlund+something approaches the value of Horvat unless that + is in the area of a 1st

Well the fact that Horvat at least projects to be a possible 2nd line center put's his value clearly above Backlund who is a 3rd line center with no projection of being anything more than that.

I think Horvat's Canuck stink is making some people underrate him. He is progressing well.
He might never be a regular ppg player, but he will be a key player like a Patrick Sharp or Craig Conroy.
