Was that an attempt to be helpful?

I'm genuinely curious about what it's trying to do...

Nope.

The truth is Microsoft has been "giving away" Windows 10 and you can bet they will be using your telemetry in an attempt to get back that lost revenue. And knowing that I think it is reasonable to assume MS is not going to care one bit about your privacy in the process.

Anyone having trouble with Flash based content?

Sometimes when I start up flash content, it won't load in Chrome or Edge and causes both programs to hang up.

If I reboot the problem goes away.

I have that in every browser except Firefox for some reason.

I can't wait for Flash to finally die.

Haven't Google decided to stop anything that uses Flash, maybe that is causing the problems in Chrome.

Flash is just awful - it slows down websites and it doesn't have the greatest resolution. I hate it.

Windows 10 is making me toy with the idea of running Linux. Anybody have any experience? There are too many flavours to chose from.

Ubuntu or Red Hat IMO to maximize the chances that you'll be able to get whatever it is you want to run.

Depends what you are looking to do. I have been running Ubuntu on a few PC's around the house with no issues. It's pretty much just for online work or to run VMware, works great. My wife even uses it with no problems. We get by with the Libre office suite but if you need something more than that you need to look at windows.

unreal. i wish i had the time and patience to change to linux. i'd do it in a heartbeat.

I am playing with it on a few non-critical computers. I am surprised how well it runs on a 7 year old laptop via the USB compared to Vista that is slogging along.

The touchscreen support is decent on my Dell, not that I use it, but nice to know it exists.

Going to install it permanently on my son's PC. He only uses it for Minecraft and web based school stuff.

LiveCD

Or dual boot.

Both options aren't very difficult to do.

On a weird random note, I had a weird issue with a specific of laptop where both win 7 and linux distro installs completely had issues with wifi/ethernet. I thought the wifi card was completely dead because wifi/ethernet worked on both linux and win 7 previously. However, I dumped Win10 on it and the wifi card works? Highly bizarre.

Haven't bought anything from the Windows Store myself. This is not likely to help me get there; GFWL was terrible. Hope they can fix this.

http://www.howtogeek.com/243012/why-...windows-store/

First up, there are serious limitations when it comes to making use of your graphics hardware. Some graphics settings also can’t be changed:

- No SLI or CrossFire: If you have multiple NVIDIA or AMD graphics cards using SLI or CrossFire, the Windows Store version won’t be good for you. It doesn’t support SLI or CrossFire, although the Steam version does.
- VSync is Always On: VSync is designed to eliminate screen tearing, but it can have downsides–like adding input lag, or decreasing game performance. If you have the Steam version, you can choose whether or not you want to use VSync. On the Windows Store version, it’s always enabled.
- Always Borderless Fullscreen Mode: The Store version will always run in “borderless fullscreen” mode, also known as “fullscreen (windowed)” mode. This ensures Alt+Tab will work properly and the game won’t take over your entire display. However, it means the game can’t have exclusive access to your graphics card, so you can’t get the best possible performance. The Steam version gives you the option of using exclusive fullscreen mode.
Sorry, No Modding: Windows Store apps are protected, so this means modding–one of the mainstays of PC gaming–just isn’t possible. The game’s running process is protected so applications like SweetFX can’t be used to modify its graphics.
- No .exe File (and No Steam Controller): You can’t launch the game directly as an .exe file. This means you can’t add it to Steam, for example, and that means you can’t use a Steam controller with it.

But Microsoft’s crippled Windows Store versions of games aren’t the solution. If you want more competition in PC gaming, you should bet on a competing store like GOG or even EA’s Origin.

How to disable the advertisements they're now pushing to the Windows 10 lock screen.

^^ god

"free" upgrade to windows 10, no worries well just harang you with advertisements. #### you microsoft.

speaking of windows 10 being terrible, if you want to press the power button to have your pc go to sleep or turn off, good luck. doesnt work 80% of the time. which for me is quite annoying because i have my tower by my tv for the time being with no monitor, just as a server.

i really miss the simple "just works" windows 7.

How is Windows going to be on more computers than any other version of Windows if they don't force it on you?

I really hope that after the free update period passes, they will stop trying to push it.

Probably going to more of this kind of forced and intrusive advertising in the OS.

http://www.digitaltrends.com/computi...0-lock-screen/

When we talked to Windows Store developers recently about sales, one developer told us visability is a key problem. Basically, people don’t look at the Store very often, so sales come from outside press instead of exposure within the Store itself.

Microsoft told us it was hoping to increase visibility for Store apps, and lockscreen ads certainly accomplish that. The question is at what cost.

[facepalm] They only push them to the lockscreen if you selected Windows Spotlight. That's literally the POINT of that option. Sometimes it's information about the random background photo it gives you. If you don't want it, don't use Windows Spotlight. Select a background photo like most people do.

Jesus, you'd think they forced you to use Spotlight and hid the disable setting in an obscure registry key or something.

This site provides an even more thorough, Administrative level OS hack to stop Windows 10 from forcing your group to see ads. Take that, M$!

I'm sure I've complained about this before, but, windows 10 keeps insisting on hiding my network button from me in the taskbar. Every couple weeks I have to go into the settings and click show. Why. Why.

Also in the notification centre, airplane mode appears highlited yet clearly it's not on. wtf.

I'm not even on a weird custom build machine im on a surface pro 3. #### i wish i wasnt so heavily invested in ms products right now. id switch to apple in a heartbeat.
