I post this simply as context to the ISIS chatter not necessarily in relation to the events in Ottawa today.

Quote:
he threat of ISIS to Canada is real, but Canada's spy agency has no information suggesting it's imminent, CSIS director Michel Coulombe told the House public safety committee on Wednesday.

The comment by Coulombe, head of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS), runs counter to repeated warnings by Prime Minister Stephen Harper and other government MPs that jihadists from the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria could attack Canada.

"It does pose a real threat, but like I mentioned, we have no information indicating an imminent attack," Coulombe told MPs.

"We don't want to sound alarmist. We're telling people that they should go about their daily life, but we have to be vigilant," he said.

NBC News reported Wednesday that its sources said Canadian authorities tracking would-be terrorists heard them discussing potential ISIS-inspired “knife and gun” attacks against U.S. and Canadian targets inside Canada.

NBC reporter Pete Williams told CBC News Network's Heather Hiscox on Thursday that one of the plots targeted a shopping mall, but that authorities stepped in at the very early stages, before there was even a timeline planned for an attack. NBC sources described the attack planning as being at the "aspirational" stage.

I got caught by that one too and had it up on Facebook. It is a very believable claim because it looks like there is police tape behind.

I left it up on Facebook (edited) because it is also a solid picture to use in honour and memory of the fallen soldier.

The George Canyon anthem thread reminded me of a song/tribute he did many years ago:

That quote from Michel Coulombe was from October 8. Turnover for new information and threat assessment can happen fairly rapidly within the intelligence life cycle (collection, process, dissemination) if using social-media sources for SIGINT. I wouldn't take that quote to heart anymore, it's too old.

It's incredibly relevant considering the events in Quebec yesterday and the tie a lot of Canadians are making to the event today. Specifically the mention of "knife and gun" attacks from the NBC report.

Witness reports lone shooter left car and took long gun into parliament. "Looked Arabian to me with long dark hair".

No, it's not. No information indicating an "imminent attack" from October 8 was two weeks ago. That quote is old - intelligence collection and processing can happen in a much shorter time frame.

I'm talking about his "imminent attack" quote, not the rest of his quotes.

Yeah I'm referring to the article as a whole in regards to the whole ISIS chatter and how it more than definitely impacted the change of the threat level.

Ric McIver saw a lot. Not sure if this has been posted or not.

“A brown Toyota Corolla with no licence plate roared up the street and screeched to a halt, 10 metres from us.”

“And the gunman walked right toward us.”

There is an image circulating with the possible shooter. Not confirmed it's him though.

Yeah, but I didn't. It was on Reddit, and just because it's Fox News, doesn't always make the information provided untrue.

“I considered my options. I was close enough I didn’t know whether I had to attack to save myself or run. I didn’t think I could get to him before he could pull the trigger so I ran.”

LOL @ Ric. I doubt he thought he would fight the shooter. This isn't The Walking Dead or TV - You are probably thinking 'How can I save my own a$$' at this point.

There is an image posted on RFD. It matches what Ric McIver says in the Sun article

Quote:
the gunman had wavy hair just about shoulder length, was medium height and wore a three-quarters to full length open coat and carried “what seemed like a very long barrel gun."
The image doesn't really indicate the man's height though.

This is the picture that's been on twitter/reddit/RFD. I'll just link to it instead of posting it.

INCREDIBLY UNCONFIRMED.

Ugh, if this is a Canadian kid shooting up parliament because he's buying into the goods ISIS is selling, then their formidablilty goes up a notch for me. Grass Roots global recruiting. Creating homegrown terrorists is something that's going to be tough to combat. Could be any confused and lost person at any time making an attack.

Why people don't want Canada involved in cutting the heads of this hydra is confusing.

My thoughts go out to those familiies directly affected by today's events.
