Yep. Difficulty for mining LTC dropped almost a 1000 today. Great news for those of us who are going all out mining LTC right now.

Any comments about the ability to quickly get funds out of MTGOX ? Is it still as bad as previously reported?

Quickly, not really.

Best bet would be to sell the BTC locally, or transfer to something like cavirtex and use any number of their options, including debit card. They posted that they were all caught up on verification, so it should only take a few days now.

Anyone ever used Vault of Satoshi? They are adding a bunch of coins to their exchange soon and like Virtex are Canadian.

Also, it looks like everyone jumped back onto the Litecoin pools. Pretty impressive spike in the network hash overnight.

I use VoS, personally, it's my go-to exchange if I'm actually investing money into it. They have great customer service, speedy responses, and have been way better than virtex.

Looks like they have gone live with a bunch of Altcoins today, including Doge.

Yeah, that's why I was asking. It's nice since I am splitting LTC and Doge right now. I haven't had any problem with Cryptsy (mainly because I haven't been putting real money in yet), but its nice to support Canadian, and at some point I will want to take money out, I imagine.

If you don't hold your coins there for any real amount of time it should be fine.

The pirate party in Iceland announced this the other day, all Icelanders will be given a one time drop of these coins and that is the big part of the 50% premined coins. Its a big FU to our government and I am quite excited to see what becomes of this.

So Bitcoin took another big hit today as mtgox stopped processing withdrawals. Looks more and more like they are running their business like full tilt poker did. Taking money for themselves and their company operations while counting on deposits to cover withdrawals. It seems like it would be very tempting way to operate an unregulated exchange like this.

Seems like there are pyramid and ponzi schemes on top of schemes in the wild west of the virtual currencies and I find it kind of shocking that as each of these news items drops the price still keeps somewhat stable.

Also read about some recent thefts from Coinbase.

Going to switch pools too, the shelved earnings in my pool are out of control, it's like a 10% tax.

Yeah Hypernova. Supposedly it's just because they've been really unlucky, but who knows. Will probably switch away for a while to see if the backlog can clear out.

I've had to email in the past to pay out my shelved earnings, and it took a while but they did eventually.

I don't think they are stupid, just misunderstood or clouded a bit in mystery to most people. I think the problem is the ability for the price to be so easily manipulated / effected by anything. They have no inherent value like commodities such as gold, silver, oil, etc. So, for me at least, it's hard to imagine its place in the world. While maybe over valued at the moment, gold is still tangible and serves an important purpose to society outside of just luxury items. It's hard to envision than with bitcoins and the like.

From Reddit. The price of Bitcoin on BTCe last night:

Spoiler!

Something like 4000+ coins dumped on the market for $102. Either one massive panic sell, or one guy about to jump off a bridge after fat fingering a sell order.
