One would hope, but cue the Olli gifs for people who doubt the merit of a cheeseburger.

Up to 182 pounds, he has added 14 pounds since the draft.
Before those Olli Big Mac jokes come out.

That strength training regimen continued at Providence and Leaman has noticed a drastic change in his first month and half with the Friars.
"He's now 182 lbs. and he's been holding that season. He's adding weight. He's working hard on his strength. That's a big plus, that's a great gain.
If 12 of those 14lbs is muscle it's not a great gain...it's a super gain! In his summer tweets he seemed to be either in the gym or on the ice every day..dedication!

People don't realize how hard it is to gain that kind of muscle weight in 6 months.

Just heard from a good source Vancouver of all teams had a deal with Philly for their first to pick Jankowski before calgary would have had a chance but Philly held off for a player they wanted, Had someone taken Laughton before Philly...Jankowski probably would have been a canuck.

Went up to Providence on Saturday for the game against Brown and while the game was a bit of a mismatch (7-0 Providence win) I was pretty impressed by Jankowski.

He definitely looks like he's filled out a bit, certainly skinnier than a lot of guys out there but not extremely so, and more importantly it didn't seem that he was lacking for strength at all. He held off defenders and drove the edges numerous times, sometimes just using his reach but often using strength and positioning. He didn't do much work along the boards, I got the sense he would have struggled a bit more there.

The biggest thing I noticed was his patience and vision, the guy is leaps and bounds ahead of where you'd expect a freshman from a relatively low level league to be. He held the puck when he needed to, moved it quickly and accurately when called for and found open ice (both with passes and with his play off the puck). His assist came on a 3 on 1 that he pretty much created with his positioning in the defensive zone (Brown was also pressing hard at that point) and he did a great job of holding the puck before slipping it to the high guy who buried it.

His skating will need work and he will definitely need to be stronger, but for an 18 year old kid who really hadn't faced elite competition until this year I was really impressed.

If he actually gained around 15lbs of 'muscle' mass, then that is very impressive considering he's VERY active, and is constantly burning calories from being on the ice or in the gym, which means he has to eat a LOT of calories just to maintain.

On the other hand, gaining 15lbs of mass over 6 months is rather easy if you eat enough, and you lift enough. I doubt that is what happened here though.

Pretty impressive.

Well he obviously gained more weight, but I doubt it is all lean body mass. I'll go for 75% muscle and 25% fat.

Still impressive though either way.

It's been discussed a little bit, but how much does Jankowski's age factor into his development? The fact that if he were a few (three?) days younger he wouldn't have been eligible for the '12 draft makes me wonder if that has an effect on his potential development.

In other words, if he were born Sept. 25, let's say, in 1993 instead of Sept. 13, 1994, I would be less impressed by him. In a way, his late birthday makes a little me more interested in seeing his development next year...not that I think this year should be considered a write-off in any way.

^ He had a minor injury. He missed one game, and Weisbrod advised him to sit out one more game they played over the Christmas break to get a lot of time to fully heal.

Not to be a Debbie Downer. I certainly hope this kid continues to make strides and one day becomes a major part of the Calgary Flames. Its a little disappointing that he only managed 1 point in what appeared to be a routing. 7-0.

Why, why is that disappointing?

I get that you would have loved to see the stat sheet after the game and see him with three goals and an assist for good measure, I just have no idea why you would be disappointed in getting a point. Sometimes that happens.

Didn't see a Gillies thread so figured I'd put this here.

Watching the Providence-UMass Lowell game and he's been lights out. Multiple ridiculous saves.

Would you not be surprised if the flames won a game 7-0 and Iginla had only one assist? I sure would be. Disappointed may not be the right word choice but everyone can understand what he's getting at here.

Would you be surprised if Sven idn't have an assist?

Janko is a very young rookie here.

Yup- we have to remember Jankowski wasn't even going to play in college this year due to his late birthday and the large jump in competition.

We should be happy with his 10 points in 17 games so far, which is pretty good for such a young guy in his first 17 college games.
