Missed this last week, but Calgary's Jim Henderson - a Dawgs alumnus - made his Major League debut last week for the Brewers. He's doing alright for himself so far. 4GP, 3.1IP, no runs against. Good story too. He's been kicking around the minors so long, he was an Expos draft pick,

Ya - awesome to see a local make the show, impressive to say the least. I heard that his first warm up pitch went to the backstop, but once the batter stepped in, was business as usual.

In other news - the Phillies have placed Cliff Lee on waivers to gauge interest in one of their star hurlers. Can't see anything happening on him, owed a boat load of cash, and the asking price for him would be extreme.

What is going on with the Phillies? It looked liked they could be contenders for years, and now they are blowing it all up?

Looks like somebody hacked into the MLB club Facebook pages and posted some questionable content. Yankees had announced Derek Jeter would miss the rest of the season for sexual reassignment surgery.

Sorry I'm on an IPad and have no idea how to paste the link but just google it.

Reading multiple tweets on twitter that he is staying in Philadelphia since a deal could not be reached.

Calgary native Jim Henderson picks up his first career MLB save.

With the way Axford has been pitching this year, they may pass the torch from one Canadian to another.

I don't think they are blowing it up just yet. They have had too many injuries to key players (incl Halladay, Utley, Polanco, Lee, Howard etc) and as well, Lee was struggling on the mound. They have a great lineup, rotation and closer (in Papelbon). One of baseball premier pitcher in the last decade or so and consummate great guy and teammate, Halladay has to win a WS before he retires.

The San Francisco Giants issued the following statement regarding the suspension of Melky Cabrera:

"We are extremely disappointed to learn of the suspension of Melky Cabrera for violating MLB's Join Drug Prevention & Treatment Program. We fully support MLB's policy and its efforts to eliminate performance enhancing drugs from our game. Per the protocol outlined by MLB's collective bargaining agreement, the Giants will not comment further on this matter."

BREAKING NEWS: Melky Cabrera of Giants suspended 50 games for PEDs
http://blog.sfgate.com/giants/2012/0...ames-for-peds/

The Office of the Commissioner of Baseball announced today that San Francisco Giants outfielder Melky Cabrera has received a 50-game suspension without pay after testing positive for Testosterone, a performance-enhancing substance in violation of Major League Baseball’s Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.

The suspension of Cabrera is effective immediately.

CABRERA’S REACTION:
Here is Cabrera’s response, which he issued in a statement through the players’ union (I received the email at 11:55 a.m.): “My positive test was the result of my use of a substance I should not have used. I accept my suspension under the Joint Drug Program and will try to move on with my life. I am deeply sorry for my mistake and I apologize to my teammates, to the San Francisco Giants organization and to the fans for letting them down.”

Mothereffer.

On July 27, 2012 Giants' beat reporter Andrew Baggerly @CSNBaggs tweeted that he heard a rumor that Melky Cabrera will suspended for a positive PED test. He asked Melky about it and he said it's totally untrue. He tweeted that Melky hear the rumor from one of the trainers and called his agent and the union. They said it was unfounded and he was tested last week.

Baggs felt crappy about it and issued this public apology. http://www.csnbayarea.com/baseball-s...blockID=747609

When it came out today, Baggs still handled the whole thing with class:
Andrew Baggarly ‏@CSNBaggs I stand by the apology column I wrote last month. Didn't have story nailed down, shouldn't have put it out there. ... (cont.)

He said it comes from a test around the All Star break.

As a Giants fan, this sucks.

Might be ok if Panda stays healthy.

I think Lincecum struggling is the biggest problem facing the Giants. If he could return to form, the offence is much better than 2010, and the Giants would be tough to beat.

Damn - this is terrible news. Giants had a grand total of 1 game with Melky, Posey, Panda, Pence batting 3 thru 6. This could put a serious dent in our playoff chances. This Giants fan is pissed.

On a side note, how does the AL appeal the result of the all-star game?

Melky....really? I can sort of see these guys doing PEDs back when it seems like they all were, but now? Dumb dumb dumb.

My god was Felix ever filthy today!! The batters in the 9th didn't have a chance - fastball, slider, curve, change - he was throwing any of those at any count for strikes. He was simply amazing today
