It most likely not blood splatter. Ramos first raven themed mask had yhe same splatter. When hallet asked him what it was it was ravens that were eating berries.

In the case of Ortio in particular it might also be a direct result of Kiprusoff.

We talked about Kiprusoff, too. (In equipment and a mask, Ortio, who is the same height and weight as his hero, and who is now being groomed to play for the same NHL team, could be Kiprusoff’s doppelgänger.)

Always liked Miska's designs and love his signature white outline - here is a new one from him.
Stephon Williams new lid for the New York Islanders 2015/16 season.

Anybody remember Hiller's retro mask? Well he was using it during the practices this morning.

God, please let him rock that lid all year - a thing of beauty. (It deserves the retro jersey too though)

My memory is terrible, but hasn't that mask never been worn in a game? (he didn't start the game it was made for)
Would love if it was his full time

He wore it during warmups for the retro game last year, but Ramo ended up getting the start.

I love the way he outlined the flaming C - it's the same outline style that I suggested some time ago in "KK please read" jersey thread for my retro concepts. Here's how it would look on the jersey:
IMHO it's clearly better because white and yellow are not put together (thus not blending into one "yellowish" white) and the logo outline matches stripes pattern on the jersey.
