I'm in the same boat as you Wormius. I just switched in the last month and the Telus PVR is really slow, changing channels, bringing up the guide and the recorded programming takes several seconds before it loads up.
I find it a pain when I turn it on and have to hit ok on the remote, half the time I hit ok nothing happens. I have to hit the ok button several times before something happens. I haven't looked in the menu, but is it possible to disable this?
I still enjoy the telus optik tv just wish the box was a bit faster at response time.

The box used to be way faster, then one of the updates made it suck. I don't really get it.
Still hoping another update will make TelusTV awesome again.

Any hope to be able to downgrade that update?

Yes it used to be wicked. It's still pretty sluggish and I also hope an upgrade will make things back to normal.
I also don't like the feature they added when you hit the previous button. Now it brings up a box showing you the previous 5 or so channels you've been to and then it stays up there for like 10 seconds.

There's a way to get rid of that.
Type "recent" (using your remote num pad) into the system info screen.
Thank you Telus install guy!

Can any one tell me if the boxes have the USB ports enabled yet? The Cisco IR repeater for these boxes requires the USB port to be active to power it.

Well I kinda presumed that but when I went through the whole process of signing up with them, they didn't even mention anything about it, and now I'm wondering if I need to buy one or WTF. I guess I was more wondering if I was required to have one prior to install date or if its a free rental or what not.

They bring it when they come to do the install for sure.
I would assume it is a free rental as long as you have the service given the calls I made to talk to them about it a rental fee was never mentioned.

Yeah, what they installed for me was a DSL wi-fi/router actiontec model. It handles the TV and internet.

NFL Network HD
Looks like Telus is adding NFL Network in both SD and HD. I dont see any information what date it will be added but according to another forum it will be added on Aug 29, but I'm sure some of the Telus ppl in this forum would be able to confirm.

Telus Optik is starting to go down hill for me. Getting more and more unhappy with the service each day.
Lately, after a few minutes into watching a recording I get "Press recordings to watch a recorded show" or something like that. That stays on the screen until I stop the show and restart it...and then there is a good chance it will come back again. If I don't do anything eventually the playback will stop and then I have to go back to recordings anyway...but guess what...all my recordings are gone. They slowly come back 1 by 1. Very frustrating. Rebooting does not fix this.
There is no way my 30 second skip button is just doing 30 seconds...and there is no way my 7 seconds back button is doing 7 seconds. If I jump ahead 30 seconds I should be able to push the back button 5 times to get back 35 seconds. Nope...try more like 20 times.
Recordings are becoming more and more pixelated and people talking on shows are starting to get robot voice.
In the last week parts of shows are getting cut off or I get long black silence in the middle of a show.
Why is a good TV product so hard to come by? Isn't it 2011? If I wasn't in a 3 year contract with Telus I would be back with Bell where the only issue I had was the monthly bill.
Edit: Forgot to add that having your TV and internet go through the same router is stupid. I had to restart my router due to internet issues. Guess what happens when you restart your router when someone is watching TV and you have a show recording?
Also, I recorded a crappy scifi movie. It recorded a whopping 10 seconds of it. So I play it back a few times to ensure I'm not an idiot. Nope..just 10 seconds. The last time I check the pvr restarts on me and then poof the movie was gone from my recordings....which is fine because it didn't get recorded anyway but WTF?

What has Telus said about it? I am sure it is an issue that is fixable, or is it all related to the latest junk firmware they pushed out?
That said, reasons like this are why contracts suck. Although when I researched it, the cancellation fees were not terribly bad. Maybe $100?

They get you to restart the box...if that doesn't work then they go hmmmmm...and they say they can send out someone to replace the box.
But it's pretty obvious that the issues are software.

I am calling Telus next week, my 3 month old PVR constantly freezes when doing playback and wont respond to the already slow remote.
50% of the time when I unplug it from power and plug it back in it works, the rest I will get odd lights - of the times it doesnt work about 40% I get a flashing red X on the screen, the other times all the lights come on (green power, blue signal, red pvr) and nothing happens, the pvr just sits their with the 3 circles on the screen.

It's been getting sketchy for me too. The Optik software on the XBox 360 is so slow it's nearly unusable. When I turn it on it takes about 5 minutes before I can even view the guide or change channels (short of punching in the number manually). It's downloading the lineup or something? It crashes the XBox if I go into recorded TV too quickly.
It might have been talked about, but what's the deal with the verbal 3 year contract? How do they enforce that?

so glad i refused to sign a contract, even though i ended up buying the box outright. at least now with equipment for both i can go between Shaw and Telus easily if one gives me a better deal (well, Telus would have to give me a screaming deal to keep this crappy TV service)

Wow all these issues are news to me, not very promising to say the least. I agree on the XBOX side, it takes forever to start up and the remote response is certainly slower. But I think once it's running I don't notice it too much.
I had way more issues with my Shaw Motorolla PVR than my Optik TV PVR, thats for sure.
