To be clear, I am not proposing to trade down. I'm proposing to acquire another pick. What would it take?

I'd consider trading Hudler to the Mighty Quacks for Ottawa's 1st.

Yeah, he wants to play for Edmonton.
Obviously something wrong there.

The over the top celebrations does it for me. Not a fan. Would sell someone's kids to get a shot at one of the Sams.

You guys are hilarious. Going off of a single tweet, you toss him away like trash.
What's he supposed to say if an NHL team is interested and he's asked about it? "Sorry, I don't want to play for those losers"?
So laughable the PMS effect on this website from so many posters.

No question. Even if they draft Ekblad, they'll pair up with J. Schultz, that should help ruin him right quick. I feel so sorry for whoever the Oilers end up picking.

Pretty stupid reason to not like Yakupov? Get the same vibe. Don't like him. I like my players that score goals and act like they have done it a 1,000 times.

Would be fine with Draisaitl or Dal Colle, but obviously prefer the Oilers take Draisaitl so the Flames can take a Sam.
Between Draisaitl or Dal Colle, my preference is Dal Colle based on playoff performances between the two. From afar it seems like Dal Colle has stepped it up to another level while Draisaitl was effectively neutralized.

I like my players that play good hockey and score lots of goals. They can whip their dick out afterwards for all I care.

Jokes sometimes do not translate well. If we picked Draisaitl, I wouldn't be complaining.

This thread will be an interesting bump if we end up drafting Draisaitl. I'm a little surprised there's this many posters that follow junior closely enough to have such a strong opinion on the top 5. Seems to me, on the surface, this team could still use a big, highly skilled centre.

We can use any of the 4 forwards in the top 5. They are all very good.

Burke has frequently stated in the past that he lets his scouts make the final decision when drafting.
He even talked about wanting to take Johnson over Ryan but his scouts vetoed him.

I agree with you on Draisaitl but I'd rather gamble on him instead of taking Ritchie.

I don't know much about Draisaitl to give an opinion on that guy. I've seen a few of Sam Reinhart and I like what I've seen but we might not get a chance to pick him. As far as I know Oilers will go after Ekblad if he is still available at the time they pick. They would be foolish enough not to draft him. If not, then might go after one of the Sams but I think they might pick Draisaitl because he is a winger. Oilers already have RNH and Gagner as a centre. So in that case, we might get a chance to pick Sam Reinhart or Bennett.
Edit:
I guess I don't really know much about Draisaitl. Just read that he is Prince Albert centre and not a winger.

One thing about the talk of changing the draft lottery I don't get is why the league doesn't look at more than just the current year standings. IMO it should be based completely on how many years a team has missed the playoffs for. If a team made the playoffs the previous year or won the lottery then they get 0 balls and draft by the standings. The other teams get weighted on how many consecutive years they've missed the playoffs for the first overall pick. This would eliminate any incentive for tanking while still giving a way for terrible franchises to climb out of the gutter

So Edmonton by your logic would have crazy good odds of first overall
Many years out of playoffs + didn't win lotto last year..?
Also teams who are on the decline are punished IMO

It doesn't reward tanking, but it does reward consistent failure
Edmonton Florida and the Islanders would draft 1st every year

I think this could work if they also added a clause where teams lottery odds are hurt if the team shows no significant progress in the standings over the span of 3 years or something. This encourages teams to get their top picks and then start improving ASAP. They'll go after free agents and try to improve their team in more ways than just tanking.
