The retained salary is only for a year and the money going towards Roslovic’s contract. I view PLD and Laine as a wash, Roslovic for a 3rd and the retention money to sign his contract is also fair.
The winner of this deal is whoever wants to give 100% to their new teams.

He was on pace for 34 last year. Better than the previous season.
Not to mention he was a much more complete player last year than anytime previous.
He scored 110 goals in this league before he was 21 years old. Thats absurd.
PLD has a career 159 pts.
Laine has a career 140 GOALS.
They are the same age.
PLD is a good player and has a very high ceiling particularly because he plays the middle.
But make no mistake, Laine is an elite player in the NHL even if he is a bit odd compared to his peers.

Rather deal with PLD than Laine. Especially long term.

DUBOIS FATHER-SON RELATIONSHIP NAVIGATES TWO LEAGUES

Quote:
Pierre-Luc and his dad usually talk after every second game. Eric watches most of his son’s games live on television. But if the Moose are performing at the same time as the Blue Jackets he will tape Pierre-Luc’s games and watch his games in the morning.
Pierre-Luc also relishes his trips with the Blue Jackets to Winnipeg. Last year, he visited with his parents the night before the Blue Jackets took on the Jets and they had an opportunity the next evening to watch Columbus score a 5-2 win.

He was on track for a fourth straight +30-goal season at the stoppage last year, and was scoring at a higher rate than in 2018-19. I think Laine has always been very effective.

Laine's last game as a Jet? 2 goals against Calgary, including an OT winner.

Flames play the Jets 3 times before Dubois is allowed to play (Feb. 6).

97 hits in 68 games last year. The guy bangs and snipes. Columbus is going to be happy for a bit at least.

Value wise I think Columbus comes out on top but man their center depth looks putrid now.
Laine is also a pretty one dimensional player, I don't think he's going to have as much of an impact as PLD on a game, without a solid center beside him.
In all honesty I look at this move as a loss for both teams. Both teams weakened their weaknesses far more than they added strengths.

Well I think Columbus wins this trade. They don't really have a number 1 center but in full view they really didn't have on this season to begin with. So, they ride a few #2 and 3 centers for the year. Or deal from a position 9f strength and try and acquire another decent center via trade.
Either way, a pure trigger man like Laine is always a welcomed addition.
We will see how they deploy PLD. Could be back to wing for him.

The facts were that he didn't rollerblade and he wasn't able to skate for 2 months.
Pretty sure he didn't just hang out and slam cheeseburgers for half a year without working out.
Also, this may be a HUGE surprise to you, but it is technically possible to play video games....and also do other things. Like work out and have a job. Pretty wild!

So Laine doesn't have to quarantine but Dubois does?

Glad not to have to play Laine anymore. He 'scares' me more than Dubois.

Well said. Both players have some serious warts when it comes to commitment.

We're going to keep having to make projections like this with Laine as he becomes more injury prone due to poor conditioning. He's on pace for two goals a game this year, but...

Which isn't saying much.

Yes, it is. But that pace is slowing down.

He's an elite goal scorer. No doubt. Unfortunately his other flaws as a player will derail that elite ability unless he can commit himself to becoming a more complete hockey player.

Politics maybe. Manitoba does shift election to election a bit. Swing state equivalent?
Republican vs Democrat
Conservatives vs Liberals/NDP
Perhaps others have insight?
