Yes, there is no way corporations won't see this as an easy way to pay their own people while they do this "job" and cut all the regulations they don't like. Splendid stuff.

You have to be the top 1% of paying loyal Twitter users interested in working 80+ hours for two unelected hot air machines to tearn down government and put people out of work.
This is right out of a Philip K. Dick novel.

The "Department of Government Efficiency" isn't actually a department since those can only be established or disbanded by Congress. So Musk isn't going to have the kind of power that a department head would.
Trump said it'll operate outside of government, so basically be a federal advisory committee of which there's already tons.
And who knows what Musk will do when he runs up against the ethics requirements for those committees, he gets tons of govt $$ and his companies interact with a lot of federal agencies.
In the end all they can do is make suggestions, Congress decides how much money get spent and on what.
EDIT: That said influence is different.. actual heads of actual departments can adopt suggestions by Musk to remove limits on killing animals to launch more rockets or dump waste to make more batteries etc..

Vivek says that DOGE should be cutting federal funding for programs with expired congressional authorization.
Small little programs like veterans healthcare, NASA, early education.

Unfortunately congress is controlled by cowardly muppets who will cave to any threat from Trump. There are no checks and balances anymore.

The Senate still requires 60 votes to past most laws unless Republicans eliminate that.
I doubt they're willing to do that as they know that if they do every single thing they do can instantly be undone the next time things swing back and then some.
I mean there's a chance there's enough who decide it's time to swing for the fences and reshape government and go for it, but we'll see.

It sure seems like that's the destination, here. If they get just a bit too, uhm, cocky, I just don't see why they'd start holding back. Logic like future consequences don't seem to be a consideration on the horizon anymore. They aren't even playing checkers now, it's just a game of hungry hungry hippos.

History is littered with recommended budgets that never got implemented and schemes to cut spending by some radical amount.
What remains to be seen is if Trump's attempt at it will fail because eventually enough ppl in Congress decide that the risk if getting primaried is lower than the risk of getting voted out because they cut social security or whatever spending benefits their voters.

I deactivated my X account. I mainly used it for my hockey list, but even that wasn’t worth it. Such a dark place. Bluesky has early Twitter vibes, way more positive!

I didn't realize everyone had migrated. Time to reopen the app!

Elon Musk’s AI turns on him, labels him ‘one of the most significant spreaders of misinformation on X’
https://fortune.com/2024/11/14/grok-...tion-spreader/
Quote:
Elon Musk might be in charge of the business of Grok, but the artificial intelligence has seemingly gone into business for itself, labeling Musk as one of the worst offenders when it comes to spreading misinformation online.
User Gary Koepnick asked the AI which person spreads the most information on Twitter/X—and the service did not hesitate in pointing a finger at its creator.
“Based on various analyses, social media sentiment, and reports, Elon Musk has been identified as one of the most significant spreaders of misinformation on X since he acquired the platform,” it wrote, later adding “Musk has made numerous posts that have been criticized for promoting or endorsing misinformation, especially related to political events, elections, health issues like COVID-19, and conspiracy theories. His endorsements or interactions with content from controversial figures or accounts with a history of spreading misinformation have also contributed to this perception.”

I removed all my follows/followers two years ago and locked my account. It's been dormant since. Yesterday, I deleted the account itself.

Went from deleting the X app on my phone to deactivating my account altogether. Elon has absolutely destroyed the app and used it to sway morons to vote for Trump.
Would it make sense to reactivate my account so I can do the follower bridge?

I've been going through my twitter feed and checking to see if people I follow are on bluesjy. Should quickly give the follow list a go at the same thing. Then I'll delete twitter.
Twitter used to be my favourite app. For getting local news, there wasn't any competition - there still is no competition.
But when Melon Husk bought it, I stopped nearly cold turkey. I check it briefly occasionally, for looking up to see if anyone is reporting on an event as it happens. But that's pretty rare.
Bluesky is starting to feel like twitter did now.
