With today's win, Felix is five (5!) points away from qualifying for Turin.

Simon takes the opening set 7-5 over Fritz. Morgan (Taylor's girlfriend) is not happy.
Edit: Simon now up a break in set 2.
Edit 2: Back on serve as Simon misses an easy volley at the net.

Somebody in the crowd yelled "Out" during play and Fritz missed the next shot and is rightfully upset.

Fritz breaks to take set 2 7-5 which means a 3rd set is required. This has been a grueling match.

Rune eliminated Hubi Hurkacz in straight sets which knocks Hubi out of contention for Turin. Fritz is the last guy remaining who can make it into the final eight.

I'm just watching Fritz Simon for a bit here and they just had about a 20 shot rally that looked like warm up. Really not a lot of energy or speed here... and Simon has absolutely nothing for a 2nd serve.
Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the winner of this get Felix next?

If Simon pulls this out somehow, Felix will utterly destroy him. Like, I get that he's retiring after this but based on what I'm watching here he might not last 20 minutes before he hangs them up. He's going for hero shots and making them sometimes but Fritz is just too passive.

You have to admire Simon, he doesn't have big weapons, but he just grinds you down and takes the will to continue playing from your soul. I agree that Fritz is being way too passive, you can't just be satisfied with exchanging ground strokes with Simon, you need to try to get to net and end points quickly. Fritz doesn't have good volleys though.

Oh man, Simon breaks and will serve for the match. By the way, this match just passed the 3 hour mark.

And now he's serving for the match.
Seriously though Fritz has just not gone for anything at all. I've seen him hit one forehand that even looked like it had a chance to end a rally. Unless Felix really beats himself I don't see it... if they put them on that super slow Court 2, well Felix just played on it and will be ready, and can move a lot better than Simon so that's curtains. But if they don't, he'll win it with his serve.
It was a nice career though.

C'mon Shapo, let's make it a great day for Canadian tennis by beating PCB. Denis dropped the first set in a tie-break, but is up a break in set 2.
Edit: Denis plays a fantastic set 2 combined with PCB playing quite poorly to be honest. Put it together and Denis takes set 2 6-2

Shapo off to a bad start in set 3 - Gets broken and then PCB consolidates.

I hope the Mexican crown will feel the same so that we can have an unforgettable day together"

Shapo played pretty well on his own serve in that set but also didn't give PCB any trouble, at no time did he seem to pose any danger to break. Pretty ho hum finish, really.

PCB got the early break and was just too solid down the stretch - Denis did have some tape on his left knee and he seemed to be favoring that leg at times. Maybe this loss isn't the worst thing as he needs to rest up for Davis Cup as Felix is already on fumes.
