Redemption for Lukes, and about 1/3 to making back the difference on the botched call before for Berrios.

Let’s be clear - interference on a ball that would have been “over the fence” is simply not a thing. You can’t interfere on a ball that would have been a home run because it wouldn’t be ####ing interference. What the actual ####.

That extra explanation just made no sense.

So if you go to a Jays game now.....get seats right on the fence. If that ball is hit anywhere near you by a member of the opposition, make sure you get that ball, even if your buddy has to hold you by the ankles!

Once again, you can’t interfere with a ball if it was over the fence. You can have interference or a home run but you can’t have interference and a home run.
The MLB should have said “it wasn’t interference because we couldn’t definitively say that the ball wasn’t going over the fence.”

Dan just explained it and what he said is correct. It can be interference and a home run.
What’s mind boggling is that means NY determined Lukes could not have caught the ball which is absolutely insane.
Not only was it not 100% obvious that the ball was gonna leave the park but it looked like Lukes was likely going to catch it.
Which means New York got it wrong on both accounts.
The only thing correct in all of that is the rule but in every way they interpreted the rule they got it wrong.

I disagree that you can have interference and a home run at the same time. The fact that there is an admission that there was interference means the ball was going to land in the field of play. You can only interfere with a ball in play. You simply cannot interfere with a ball that wasn’t in play.
The correct ruling IMO to justify what happened should have been: there isn’t conclusive evidence to indicate that it was going to land in the field of play. As such, there is no interference and the call on the field stands.

On the bright side, the Twins have scored 7 to cut the lead to 10-8

The odds of Berrios being on the playoff roster are probably less than 50/50 IMO. He just isn’t right and right now, he isn’t good enough to start and isn’t a good arm out of the bullpen.
I still think he’s got a nagging injury and is too proud to give up his streak. His pride could cost him the playoff roster position.

Loperfido has one of the weakest arms in the game and any third base coach would know that.
Little is just so frustrating sometimes.

And Gimenez to start it while the running Rays player was right in front of the ball

Kirk has been a lot less effective throwing out runners…probably because his pop time has slowed down. His pop time had improved quite a bit over last year but the wear and tear of catching almost every day is probably catching up to him. Not sure throwing through there was really worth the risk and could have jeopardized a called strike three if Diaz hadn’t swung and missed.
