The trades probably happened yesterday because Treliving was on a transatlantic flight and couldn't be on the line with half the GMs in the league.

Got to find a way to keep the string of bad contracts and buyouts going somehow lol

Semi kidding, I think Hextall is a lot better than Holgren. I don't think he does it because having almost 30m tied up in 3 forwards is a bad way to build a team.

Wow he got home fast. Was shown on TSN watching the Helsinki WJC finals in person around 9am Calgary time and was back in Calgary for the Lightning game the same day?

So in retrospect the Jokinen deal really wasn't all that bad for the Flames.

Think there is a good chance he gets claimed. IMO.

Vancouver should be interested.

edit: and looks like most Avs fans are pissed.

Well Schwartz and Tarasenko were picked within the next 3 picks. You never know.

Tarasenko probably had the Russian factor against him and Schwartz, while being a good ol' western kid was pretty small.

If I'm Treliving, I'm looking hard at putting in a claim.

Has had a tough time of it so far in the bigs, but he's played on some pretty poor teams. I still see a lot of potential there.

If we could get rid of some of our contracts (or even not and wait for Wideman and Russell to leave in the off-season).. I wouldn't be against picking him up for the bottom pairing as a 6th-7th dman.

He's an RFA at the end of the season, currently making 850k.

If we didn't have like 5 bottom pairing defensemen, this might be a worthwhile gamble. Surely Gormley can at least become a depth guy for someone? I wonder what his main issue is? Probably hockey IQ, that's usually what it comes down to.

Agree, Vancouver should be all over this.

Would love to move one of our d-men (Russell, Wideman, Smid, or Engelland) and take a claim on Gormley.

We probably should be looking at moving one of those 4 anyways, and this just makes it much easier.

Edmonton, Vancouver, or Columbus would probably all pounce first thought.

In regards to waivers, if you make a claim do you bounce to the bottem? like my fantasy football league? haha

No. Order is always related to standings.

No. It is essentially reverse league standings as priority.

Wideman has another year on his contract so unless someone wants his $5.25M deal this summer and he is willing to waive his NMC he goes no where

I like the sounds of that quite a bit if Gormley is available to us.

Would Russell be of interest to the Rangers? What would we need to add?
