I was watching the lowly Jets game at a buddies last night and they had a segment in the 1st intermission comparing this Oilers team to that of the 80s. It was laughable. I couldn't pay attention that much but they compared Nurse to Coffey, and skinner to Fuhr. It was insane.

was at a friends and had just finished ranting about the media's infatuation with that wildcard team and then they did this segment...sickening.

The Oilers have nearly the same GAA as Arizona and Chicago, and they have tons of more goals against than any of the teams that are in the playoff picture. They've allowed, 42 more than Nashville, 40 more than Winnipeg, and 24 more than Calgary. They've allowed 65 more than Carolina, and a crazy 90 more than Boston.
How can a team that has allowed almost a hundred goals more than Boston be considered a contender?

Don’t you know. Bettman is going to issue a rule prior to the start of the playoffs. Checking will not be allowed and one team or another must be on the powerplay at all times. 5 on 5 will be verboten. Oh and Connor and Leon will have diplomatic immunity through the entire playoffs. They get to make the rules.

I saw the video and it clear hits the post. That sure is a lot of rage for something that can easily be disproven by the overhead view, but they prefer to wear tinfoil hats. Every goal post from that angle will look like it is in. I want 2 mins of my life back.

That last line man:
While some believe it was a clear goal, others argue that it did not cross the line. Ultimately, it's up to individual interpretation.
Ah, no it's not up to individual interpretation, you know, if you look at an angle that is actually relevant.

The Boomer podcast episode on working in Edmonton was hilarious
They're not allowed to criticize the team up there, or else people upstairs get mad and can call in and throw fits
We always speculated, but to hear firsthand that's actually how it is makes it even better
So fragile that someone internal couldn't stand the western Canadian native conn smythe winner being interviewed on Edmonton airwaves
These are ex pros, millionaires and billionaires behaving like 4 year olds whose balloon got popped
The fact that national stations enable and feed into their pathetic self important culture is outright shameful
You don't fluff the ego of the loud mouthed, over-confident kid that has proven nothing. You knock him down a peg.
But such is the reality we live in. At least it provides for maximum hilarity when the pompous idiots are outed for being nowhere close to contending
Katz actually calls into Stauffer's radio show if he doesn't like the direction it's going. It has to be the only North American sports market where the media is totally controlled by the team.

Is stauffer media? Considering he is a paid employee of OEG?
Just going off memory here but didn't the oilers medical staff pretty much toast Smid's career? I'm remembering that he was playing with cracked vertebrae in his neck when he was traded away? something like that.
