Is according to this article on the ring road the traffic at 14th st is 25000 cars a day. So in 1200 apartments you get about 1800 cars so a 10-15% increase assuming a trip in and a trip out.

I think it's crazy that a community in Calgary has under 700 people. My community has over 24 000.

There are also other adjacent communities, so I don’t think the argument that they’re adding 3000 to a community of 700 is really accurate.

So who do you think is running again?
Sharp
Wyness
Mian
Chu
Dhaliwal
Wong
Walcott
Carra
Chabot
Penner
Spencer
Mclean
Demong
I'm going to guess Wyness, Dhaliwal, Wong, Walcott, Chabot, Mclean run again.
Chu, Carra, Penner, Demong I assume don't run as they probably lose if they do. Sharp is going to run for mayor I think.
Spencer and Mian I'm on the fence with. I think they should run, and are good councilors, but don't know if they will.

The 3,500 daily riders on MAX yellow BRT is eye-opening. That’s a huge shortfall from the projected daily ridership of 12,500 when the project was being promoted. If the Glenmore Landing development was approved, that might add another 1,000 or so daily riders (and that’s very optimistic). Makes you wonder how often planners put their thumb on the scale to juice support for projects.

Well 3600 at the public forum and 150 daily riders in 2022. Not exactly eye-popping numbers in the right direction. But the article hits exactly why; the route doesn’t go to a train station easily. You can transfer to another one and get to Heritage or go all the way downtown to get to one.

Someone I was talking to explained this to me about the greenline. They said city of Calgary assumed zero canablization of their own ridership. Ie - all the riders would be new and none would be riders than just chose the greenline over other transit options they're currently using. I'm not sure if it's true or not, but this was an expert on these types of matters, so I wouldn't be surprised if it's true.
I don't know if its "putting the thumb on the scale", "carrying water for council" or just "bad modeling", but it's interesting. There's a book I was reading that discusses how this is pretty typical for major public infrastructure projects both with respect to underestimating costs and over estimating benefits, pointing to many academic studies.

Walcott must go. He’s nothing but a development rubber-stamper and has done nothing positive for the ward.

I like Mian. She’s active in the community. her staff are responsive to requests, and no drama.

Yep. My kids take transit all the time to go all over the place. They’ve used the Max Yellow maybe twice since it opened. It doesn’t go anywhere.
The BRT is not convenient for going downtown - not when you’ve got the LRT running parallel 1.5 km away. Going to anywhere along Macleod you’re going to take a regular bus and the C-Train. The ring road made driving to Mount Royal University from this part of town a snap. Seems they vastly overestimated how many people would use the BRT to go to Heritage Park and the Rockyview.

Both *ourtneys are awful and need to go away, honestly.

I don't they took that into consideration. I think everyone and their dog knew that the ring road was going to impact traffic on that road. I can't recall that last time I used 14st to go south or north since that portion of the ring road opened. Probably would have been a lot cheaper for them just to add a HOV lane each way then the dedicated that transit road.

That isn't correct:

I think if he ran I don't see why he wouldn't win, he's probably the most established member of council. He's been a councilor for four terms now. Won last election by land slide. No controversies and he's a conservative in a conservative ward of the City.
I think Sharp is going to run for Mayor as well. Personally I hope she doesn't win as a councilor or Mayor.

I think take back Alberta was targeting him last year for some reason so maybe some of their followers are convinced that he’s unpopular. I personally don’t have much positive to say about Demong as my representative, other than them not liking him.
