Stripes
Gremlins 1
Goonies
BttF Trilogy
Beverly Hills Cop 2
Caddyshack(though maybe be tinged by memory)
Those would be the ones I'd recommend.

So many modern movies reference many of the movies on that list.
This explains so much about NF's taste in movies. He hasnt seen any good ones so he has no frame of reference.

I’d add to the 80s list:
Weekend at Bernies
Trading Places
Coming to America

This would be my watch order. You could probably do the BTTF as a trilogy watch. It'd be neat to watch them all at once for the first time.
Goonies
Gremlins 1
Back to the Future 1
Caddyshack
Animal House
Stripes
Meatballs
Blues Brothers
48 Hrs
Porky's & Revenge of the Nerds (a lot doesn't age well but still worth watching)
Smokey and the Bandit
Mr. Mom
Beverley Hills Cop 2
Back to the Future 2 & 3
Gremlins 2
3 Men and a Baby

Thanks everyone for your suggestions I have added Weekend at Bernie's to my watch list as well. Mind you this will probably take me years to complete but it's on the list
Coming to America and Trading Places are both amazing, I almost died laughing at those one, Eddie Murphy was amazing in the 80s.
I also wanted to say I try to watch movies on Blu ray or 4K and as a last resort DVD. If at all possible I avoid streaming when watching movies (I'm a snob I know) and alot of these are still only in DVD. How does 3 Men and a Baby (the highest grossing film of 87!) Not have a Blu ray release!

Smokey and the Bandit is from '77. Worth seeing for it's cultural significance, but frankly not much else.

Jesus Christ. Nadal, take the weekend off and watch:
BTTF. For sure one, maybe all three if you’re up to it.
Animal House
Blues Brothers
Trading Places
Smokey and the Bandit
Caddyshack
Gremlins 1
The rest can all wait.

Can BTTF 2 be considered a comedy? Whenever I watch it, it just seems so dark.

Hmm...it's a "comedy" in the Shakespearean sense of the word. All the characters live at the end AFAIK.

48 hrs, Caddyshack and Stripes (maybe skip the last 20 minutes) would be must sees for me. (Bias: Bill Murray). I guess they all could be dated, but I think Blues Brothers would be considered a classic but I am not so sure it aged well.
Edit: and the First Back to the Future for sure. That one holds up.

The Princess Bride is a comedy!
Also didn't see Space Balls mentioned.

Boonies is horrible. It’s so bad that it keeps getting autocorrected to Boonies and I’m not going to bother fixing it.
