Its one thing to be pervy. Its another thing entirely to be sooooo pervy that, even though you are a "public figure" (sort of), you can't help but publicly tweet your pervy tips and tricks to your fellow pervs. Jesus Christ.

To be clear, "clean n' jerk" is a weightlifting term. Matheson is literally just saying that the body builders could all lift him over their heads.

We get it but it's still not an ideal choice of words for a media member to use. I think the problem stems from the Edmonton market holding on to their beloved media members far past their expiry date. Jones and Matheson are so out of touch that a lot of their articles and tweets are/were just plain awkward. It's not a lot difference to what happened with Don Cherry. When you let these guys have a voice past their expiry, don't be surprised when they put their foot in their mouth because it's inevitable.

Look at what's going on in the NFL right now where QB's are making obscene money and running backs who touch the ball more than any other player outside of the QB are devalued to the point that only punters, long snappers, and fullbacks make less. It's totally unfair but that's part of the business with these player unions where anything considered "team friendly" is frowned on.

Because the players are too stupid to understand that the mid range on the cap is the actual 50/50 share of the cap. When 20 teams spend over the cap the escrow account goes up, and the players end up giving back 15% of their Gross Pay which is coming back from their NET pay.
They remind me of Shawn Kemp from Seattle, had 10 kids with 9 women and was paying 90% of his Gross pay in child support and wanted to renegotiate his contract because he couldn't "survive". The team owner, not even his agent/adviser had to sit his down and tell him it doesn't matter how much he makes as he still has to pay 90%.

If his pay went up, wouldn't he keep more money for himself?

No, because he wasn't accounting for taxes, agents fees etc. Every payday his whole cheque was gone.

How about a "CF as long as we're facing 3rd stringers without top scorers, otherwise 2nd round" discount?

The Oilers have only one card to play with Draisaitl and that's to convince him he can make more there because of the 8 year deal versus 7 everywhere else. But they will have to overpay because of taxes in a lot of other places, so the one year difference might not be as big as they think. And Draisaitl might overvalue himself in the market (I'd love to see him overestimate like Gaudreau, and settle for a smaller contract in the east.

If Draisatl made the decision to go East would he consider TB as a good landing spot for a FA deal? He could probably get $14M for 7 years, pay no state tax and have the chance to play with Kucherov. His production wouldn't drop off on that PP, he would be away from Canada taxes and still wouldn't have to play defense.

TB is already over the cap, where are they getting $14M in cap space?

Yeah, they spent their money on Guentzel. No one important is off their books any time soon, aside from McDonough in 2026 (and he's 6.75).
But Vegas: I bet Stone is LTIR, they will be shedding McNabb and Theodore as well as a bunch of smaller contracts. And they just have to juggle Eichel for a year. Or buy out someone.

You can never discount the Knights. They seem to always get their man and players clearly want to play there.

I do think that, for as long as they remain a winning organization, players will line up to play there. Once the falter, they will also remember how notorious they have been at shipping players out in favour of newer toys.
Everyone wanted to play in San Jose, LA and Anaheim when they were good, but I am betting many have them on their NTCs right now. Florida was not a haven for players, but it probably is #2 in the NHL only behind New York now that they have become a winning organization, especially after winning the cup.
I think these things are cyclical for the most part. Unless Vegas' reputation gets absolutely tarnished, they will never be a Winnipeg or Edmonton, but I do think that they will probably stop being a destination too once they stop winning.
