It just seems more and more likely that the Flames are going to get a real good player.
I'm as positive as I have ever been.

Going to be a very interesting top 10 and for the first time in history the few minutes between picks won't be enough time to really analyze and discuss the ramifications for the following picks ticking away.

Silayev set the record for points by a draft eligible defenseman in the KHL, so I think there is more offensive upside than he gets credit for. The KHL also used to be known for being stingy with handing out 2nd assists, not sure if that has changed. I think to suggest that Silayev will provide no offense and just be a stay at home defender is not quite accurate.

I'm going to wildly guess Flames look at forwards over D. Dmen are harder to predict and take longer to get to the NHL. I wonder if Conroy seems to have sought Dmen in trades because (a) they have someone of a track record in pro hockey and (b) they will be NHL ready at about the same time as a younger forward.

Good point. He got all those points in first part of season (was it 6 points in 6 games?).
How can they judge his offense based on KHL stats. Too bad he doesn't have much to go on prior to KHL. There are some MHL numbers but kid grew like crazy, so hard to judge.
In their draft years in KHL....
Nikishin had 3 in 29 (carolina blueliner that looks amazing)
Simashev 0 in 18 game
Silayev looks incredible in the videos online that's for sure.

Exactly what I heard.
Chicago basically all but confirmed this at the combine as well.
3 dinners with the guy should have confirmed it for most lol.
He also didn't have dinner with any other team.

People keep saying Silayev is a bad pick because we should be going for the highest ceilings - swinging for the fences.
IMO, Silayev is the 'swinging for the fences' pick. Everyone else is thoroughly scouted and you know what you're getting (to the extent possible). Silayev is a magic beanstock and could be the 2nd best player in the draft. At worst he is a top 4 defenseman, probably a top2 defenseman (to be paired with an offensive guy). And his ceiling is Hedman or Chara

Yeah... but half of them came in the 1st 6 games of the KHL season or something like that. Now... the first 6 games count just as much as any other stretch but it makes me more inclined to think that those first six might have been just a lucky streak and that his performance over the rest of the season is more indicative of his true talent this year.
Having said that I do think that he's likely more then just a stay at home low-offense guy but how much is the million dollar question. If he's Chara 2.0 then you pump your fist and say "What MF'ing Steal!" and if he's Zadorov 2.0 you you say "Well he's an NHL'er but damn I wish we'd taken player X instead".
I think he's gone before the Flames pick... one of the teams in front of us is going to dream on him and make the call.
At this point I'm kind of hoping that Buium falls to us. Great draft year performance, projects to fill a spot at the top of the depth chart, winner.

Interesting top 6 draft order that leaves a lot of nice options no matter who Ottawa/Seattle takes

Plus, Silayev doesn't have a history of point production at lower levels either.
He might end up becoming a generational talent for defensive defensemen though, which would easily justify being a top 10 pick. I just wouldn't draft him expecting much offense from him. If he does figure out that part, it would be amazing though.
The Flames seem to have a decent history of finding defensemen though. It's probably the one area in player development that the Flames do well. This is part of the reason why I would prefer we target forwards with our top 10 pick.

Sennecke and Silayev going top 6 leaves a ton of talent available for CGY.

If Sennecke actually goes top 6, i'd be picking up the phone and trying like hell to get #7 from Ottawa without giving up 9.
Take Buium or Parekh at 7, and still have a crack at Iginla at 9, and take Catton if SEA takes Iginla.
What a kick start to the rebuild that would be.

Should be a lot of fun to watch. It seems like Dickinson is the guy who is falling a bit if the projections of Sennecke rising are true. Like to see the Flames take a scoring forward, ideally a centre if possible to build around.

Gotta think Ottawa would go
Buium
Iginla
Parekh if that top 6 holds true.
Then
one of those d or dickinson to seattle
For the flames pick my potential draft order goes
Buium/Iginla
Catton
Parekh
Dickinson
If we can't get 7 from Ottawa, 11 from Buffalo would still be an amazing pick. Would mean we're getting one of those dmen or Catton at 11

It’s a great spot for the flames. If Catton or Iginla aren’t there, then one of the top D has fallen and they grab him.
Can’t plug all our holes with this pick but the chance to get a top line forward or top pairing D is so tantalizing.
Man, would I love another top 15 pick though. Really like the top of this draft.

Or 10th from the Devils if they were interested in Andersson. Would be such a relief to pick twice in a row. In your scenario, I would love for it to be Iginla + Catton.

Anyone know when the Fan960 is doing their mock draft? They usually do one on the radio don't they?

I can't see that 10th pick going to Calgary unless it had been part of the Markstrom deal. Unless they wanted to wait to see who's available at 10 first

Flamesnations mock has the Flames taking Dickinson. With Catton, Helenius, Silayev and Yakemchuk on the board.
