The Flyers should do a massive rebuild. Let us take Couturier off of your hands

I am wildly hyped. Nothing is beyond Treliving's grasp!
Barzal, Dubois, Schiefele, Schmaltz... I want one of these now please.

I really want to see something around Hanifin for a top 6 young forward with potential for further growth. It is tough since there are not of great trade suitors either because of cap space or positional needs. It is hard to do hockey deals in the new NHL.

No interest in Dubois at all he has a Dougie Hamilton but worse player vibe to me. Couldn’t handle Torts I don’t see him loving Sutter.
End of the day I do think there will be another add up front but realistically unless we hear Monahan/Tanev will definitely be going LTIR some money will need to be moved out of it is an impact player coming in

The Jets seem really frozen right now. I think if Dubois hadn't leaked about not signing, they would have been more active including the possibility of a Schiefele move. Their makeup is very strange and their GM is prone to paralysis. Glad we got a guy that actively tries to make things happen.

Honestly the most realistic add from the Jets in my opinion would be Wheeler. I just wouldn’t want to give up much more than Monahan to make that work since he is over 35 and has 2 years left on his deal.

Kind of but not really. He's always made really good trades for players that want out. His issue is more that the only time he makes big moves is if a player wants out. He's like other GM's that falls in love with his guys and is totally fine with bringing back the same group that failed last year and the year before. The problem with Dubois is that teams aren't going to give up much for a player that's indicated he wants to sign with a particular team when he's a free agent. Montreal kind of has leverage on him. I get the feeling that in similar fashion to the Flames last season he will bring the group back for one last kick at the can and hope a new coach can get more out of the team and next offseason will likely have to start dismantling things. I don't think I would be on board for giving Sheifele another contract when he's 31 years old given his poor defensive play and lack of leadership qualities.

I think the Flames D as it stands right now is 'perfect' - trade one of the top 6 for a forward, and suddenly you have a hole. Have an injury on top of that (which happens every season) and suddenly your defence isn't strong any longer.
Sutter specifically stated that the defence was too young and inexperienced last season. Unless Weegar doesn't want to sign in Calgary, then I would expect that the top 6 is set. Whatever combos people want to come up with, it will be a combination of Andersson, Hanifin, Kylington, Tanev, Weegar and Zadorov (in alphabetical order, just to screw with you guys).
I am not a huge fan of Hanifin - I have really griped about how many plays are whistled dead because Hanifin has taken yet another low-percentage long range shot with no traffic in front that the goalie made a routine save on. However, remove him, and Calgary's defence is weaker. I don't think Calgary has an embarrassment of riches, or is too defence-heavy like they were to start the 2009-10 season. I think they are rather perfect at the moment, and can sustain one injury to anyone on that d-corps, and still provide strong defence. I think with trading someone for a forward, an injury kind of blows up the backend.

Sure, I don't think the run back is that bad of a plan for them. They have some nice pieces. But they've just sat there with 8.5 in cap space and 10 forwards signed. Do something! Anything!!
Realistically losing Copp who was looking to extend with them makes the team look much worse. Their bottom 6 used to be pretty enviable and did a great job propping up their skill guys. Now it looks thin.
I think they are just waiting to rebuild but want their players to force their hand so their fan base doesn't get too riled. Super small Canadian market thing to do.

I think Josh Anderson is the perfect fit for this team now that Huberdeau is signed.
Big, scoring winger with grit... fills the Evander Kane match up vs the Coilers. And under contract for next 5 years.
Not sure what it would take to get him but I'd be ok with:
Valamaki
Dubé
Poirier

They are always going to be hindered to an extent because of the market and small arena they play in. Fortunately they do draft very well in the early rounds of drafts so a rebuild may not be a bad thing but the issue will be that a lot of the good players they draft will want to eventually leave which makes for a perpetual cycle.

Not a fan of this suggestion personally. Poirier is someone the flames should continue to try and develop as he has very nice upside. Andersen has a deal that likely ages poorly and the Flames will find themselves in a tough spot with a lot of 30+ players taking up massive portions of the cap.

Anderson's contract is terrible though. With one year left on Lucic's deal I'm not okay with replacing that deal with Anderson's. He's one of the most overrated players in the NHL.

I’m not sure he’s overrated, or rather just the natural progression of people with his skillset, much like Lucic. He’s a big guy who had average skating. He’s gotten injured and he’s aging and he’s naturally got slower as a result. GM’s can’t jump on the hype train, and have to be mindful of giving out long term contracts where it won’t age well.

Throwing stuff at a dartboard,
Hanifin + 2024 3rd to WPG for Nik Ehlers
2023 1st (top 10 protected) + Nic Meloche to CAR for Martin Necas
Move Monahan to LTIR
Sign Necas to 3 x $4.5MM
Huberdeau - Lindholm - Ehlers
Mangiapane - Necas - Toffoli
Coleman - Backlund - Dube
Lucic - Ruzicka/Rooney - Lewis
Weegar - Andersson
Kylington - Tanev
Zadarov - Stone/Mackey/Valimaki
Markstrom
Vladar

Unfortunately GMs also have the internet so the likelihood of Dube being included in any trade until this whole dust up is settled is probably around about zero percent.

He's not remotely close to the player Lucic was in his prime. He's a poor man's Lucic if anything as he's never put up numbers like Lucic has.

I would say it would be, unless Tanev gets those minutes and you make an Andersson/Kylington pairing.
