Yzerman likely will be methodical in moving Drouin
Marleau's trade request will likely go away
Hextall hinted there is a trade possibility for Sam Gagner
No one wants to take on his full salary
Some thought the Capitals might look at Byfuglien with Orpik's health uncertain
But moot now that Orpik is back
Panthers may take a run at Byfuglien
Panthers want to sign Barkov to a 6-8 year deal
Arizona is looking for a taker for Steve Downie
Jared Cowen is in the penthouse of Dave Cameron's doughouse
Murray has been reluctant to move Cowen before, but situation may be coming to head
John-Michael Liles could be an under the radar rental acquisition for a playoff team

sounds like the issue in ottawa with Cowan is interpersonal and not necessarily on-ice results based.

Interesting, as I thought Cowan was a decent, stay at home defenseman. I don't watch much of the Sens, so has his play really fallen off a cliff? $3.1 mil cap hit isn't great, but it is decent if he is a guy that can be the 4-5 guy. Just going on memory from a couple of seasons ago...

I've liked Cowen in the past but he hasn't played like a 4-5 guy, more like a 7-8 guy.

Any glaring reason for this? I havnt watched much sens cause I loath a fellow sailor/sens fan and he keeps trying to convince me Hoffman is better than Gaudreau... Another time..
But Cowan, I liked how he looked last year.

What do people think about Hayes for Hudler, straight across?
Hudler strengthens their playoff push. Hayes adds to the rebuild

Treliving would be in such a hurry to sign it he'd crush the pen with his iron grip.

Despite the benchings for Hayes, I find it difficult to believe that the Rags would trade him away at this point.
He's a big guy, and he's shown that he has the talent to play and succeed in the NHL.
NYR are in a tight race for the Metropolitan, but I'm not sure if Hudler really puts them in a better position.

The numbers don't work. Even if the Flames retained 50% of Hudler's salary, the Rangers don't have the cap space.

If it was done closer to the deadline, it shouldn't be a problem.

According to nhlnumbers.com, Hayes has a cap hit of 3.75M for 2015/16, with 2.85M of that being from a signing bonus. Hudler has a cap hit of 4.0M.
Unless the bonus doesn't transfer, which I think it does, then the numbers would seem to work for a hypothetical Hayes for Hudler deal.

Reason: Performance bonus... not signing bonus.

Hayes for Hudler would be a great trade for the Flames. Size and chemistry with Johnny added to the top line.

That's not a signing bonus, that's a performance bonus.
A signing bonus would count towards the cap, performance bonus (to a degree) do not count towards the cap. If a team exceeds the cap once the bonuses are given out they take a cap penalty the next year (see Iginla in Boston, Hawks because of Toews and Kane).

Kevin Hayes would be a huge (literally and figuratively) acquisition for the Flames.
Not sure why the Rangers would let him go though.

You wouldn't trade Hudler to NY, but there are other things that they covet. A big C/RW like Colborne, and a near NHL ready defender in Kulak plus a mid pick would likely be enough to create a discussion surrounding Hayes and an AHLer.

I don't think the money works out even at the deadline. The Rangers are really really really close to the cap. It might work if the Flames took Tanner Glass back as part of the deal, but then the Flames end up paying Tanner Glass... and teams that actually pay Tanner Glass money should be mocked and made fun of.
