Spector with a hatchet piece on everyone not named McDavid…but Draisaitl escapes criticism because despite his current dry spell, he will return to mean for goals.
Here’s the thing though, that chart above shows that the glitter twins aren’t exactly excelling at 5v5.
Also Spector refers to the oilers as a one man team…that’s literally the headline.
Here’s how toxic it gets when the glitter twins manipulate their fanboy media:
—-
Mangiapane was given a seat in the press box again, while Frederic didn’t have a shot on goal in nearly nine invisible minutes. His contract — eight years at $3.85 million per — has reached Jack Campbell territory as possibly the worst contract in club history.

What would be the other worst contracts in addition to Campbell and Frederic?
Lucic 7 years, $42 million ($6 AAV) signed in 2016. Traded after 104 points over 3 years.
Neal 5 years, $28.75 million ($5.75 AAV) signed in 2018 by Calgary, acquired one year in. Bought out after two years with the Oilers and 41 points.
Souray - 5 years, $27 million ($5.4 AAV) signed in 2007. Sent to the minors and bout out in 2010-11.
Nurse - 8 years, $74 million ($9.25 AAV) - in 2021, one the the NHL's top paid defensemen, yet never to play as one.
Horcoff - 6 years, $33 million ($5.5 AAV) in 2008 - had a 50 point season the first year before having his play and numbers drop off significantly.
Khabibulin - 4 years, $16 million ($4 AAV) in 2009 and was a poor backup for four years. His record was 33-67-14.

I watched about half the game, Oilers are terrible.
McDavid seems slower this year. Teams are trying to keep him to the outside where he's not nearly as dangerous, and keeping an eye out for the pass. Sure he'll still get a lot of points but it seems to keep him a little less effective.

Part of the problem though (and yes their depth is putrid and I’m not saying anything earth shattering here ) is the ongoing need to stack the McDavid line- I even hear justification that you can’t do this to him (break up his line ) while
He’s having the bestest December ever
Give him Hyman and one of the infinite guys promised shot gun with him
Nuge should be in the Backlund role (lol I know) - you don’t have a Coleman but I dunno give him janmark and then that line breaks in the kids - Howard or pick your
Poison
Anyways not my job to fix !

Not my circus, not my monkeys, but stripping McDavid of the C might build team unity. There's no "I" in "TEAM" and all that hooey.

I think McDavid's leadership is limited to "See what I'm doing? Why can't you idiots do it too? Let's go!"

Every game I watch, teams funnel him outside (as you say), and basically just don’t let him make them look dumb. There’s no denying the guys is unreal, and that’s why it was so bad that Edmonton won the lottery. But teams seem to have learned that you keep him outside and let him skate around, and you can somewhat limit the damage 5 on 5. The PP is another matter, and they can put out a really high performing line.

Exactly. Their gameplan is essentially to get at least 4 powerplays. 4 powerplays means 2 goals at minimum for them. They can usually get 1 even strength goal as well. With that setup, most nights their plan is that McDavid automatically spots them 2 goals. The rest of the team needs to combine to get them 2 more and they will win more games than lose. Diving has become essential to get those powerplays. There is no risk in constantly diving because at worst an embellishment call gets them a 4-on-4 situation that also plays into the hands of McDavid.
Where it all falls apart is that McDavid does not always put up 2 points in a game. Or they might not get 4 powerplays. And their goaltending/defence is highly suspect. Too many holes in the team to depend on powerplays and overtime to get wins. It can work but is an ultimately flawed model because if a team plays then 5-on-5 for most of the game, it is highly likely the Oilers lose. It’s been that way for most of the McDavid era.

Yeah there's two other things I've noticed:
- teams just throw pucks on net at them, because their goalies are truly awful.
- when the doofus twins are on the ice, opposing team wingers go way up by the Oilers' side of neutral zone once their d has the puck because they know that mcd and drai will not backcheck. mcd not backchecking is especially problematic because he's the C and it often leaves a giant gaping hole in the middle of the ice, or the oiler's D will cover the middle of the ice and leave the outside exposed for easy entry.

As much as we look at JH's contract and it is a bad contract. Nurse's contract has to be described as the worst contract in the NHL right now. Why, because he plays like dude getting paid massive money, and he doesn't care all that much anymore. He's never improved or evolved since he got that contract, he's taken a massive step back and I don't think he tries that hard or cares.
I mean he was never a 9 million dollar defenseman and was never on track for that kind of money before he signed this deal, he was maybe a good middle pairing pointman but never had the number 1 pairing star to his name.
When he got that contract offer he and his agent probably laughed for hours and smoked cigars in a boardroom somewhere.
