I can't believe after 2,000 years even the Catholic church thinks abstinence is an option.
You take two 18 year olds who are attracted to each other, and they WILL find a way to ####. It's just nature.
Now if you taught them sex is bad, immoral and a sin, they won't know about safe sex and contraceptives, or will feel ashamed to use them. They get pregnant and either get abortions behind their parents' backs, or their lives are ruined by an unwanted baby.
Now if you taught them about choices, commitment to a partner, consequences, contraceptives, the two 18-year olds probably have some awkward sex, leave embarrassed, and there is nothing but some hurt feelings, but no baby and no abortion. And isn't that what this is all about?
They can't even keep their own priests from raping children, I'm not sure why they think they can stop animals from doing animal things.

The point is the two 18 year olds should be taught be their God-loving parents and be responsible enough (and scared into) to know not to have sex. And it's not just the church. In countries like India where they have a caste system, a girl is damaged goods and dishonors the family if they lose their virginity. Or in Asia, a girl who has lost her virginity, isn't going to be able to marry into a affluent family. The mother in law would never allow it. Again, all these mechanisms are about power. And more often than not, it's the women, the mother, welding that power. Women taking away other women's rights.
You guys are white, you don't deal with these issues

Is there anything more abhorrent and telling than a law that bans abortion and does not have an exception for rape or incest? In the majority of cases, a child born from rape or incest will not have a good life. There is no more clear indication than this to illustrate that they don't care one iota about the life they are "saving" by banning abortions. This is all about controlling women and forcing morality. Sickening.

Its about time, no one should be able to take my baby away from me, especially not my sister.
It's been WAY overdue that the world stopped holding America up as the model to follow or a country to aspire to be. We never thought that the killing of elementary school aged children would have no effect on positive gun control changes. We never thought we'd see people march while shouting anti-Semitic slogans. We never thought police killing blacks would still be a thing in 2020. America is as they've been showing us.
The world stopped holding the US up as the model to follow long ago. What has been way overdue is many Americans accepting that theirs is not the country most aspire to be.

Why not? Lots of angry voters in the States right now…mid terms coming up and many people who might otherwise not vote or might change their vote.
If the will of the people mattered in the US, they would have universal health care, gun control, rights to abortion, paid parental leave and a whole lot of other things.
Instead it's just "red bad, blue good!" And vice versa over there.
Might be a wake up call for the folks who willingly trade tax cuts for rapidly expanding Christian nationalism. The entire idea of settled law has evaporated.
I mean, the sheer ####ing balls of doing that... it's amazing. Even Alito and the majority said "Our decision concerns the constitutional right to abortion and no other right... Nothing in this opinion should be understood to cast doubt on precedents that do not concern abortion." At least they're trying to hide any such possible intentions... Thomas gives no ####s, just "yeah guys so let's see if we can deal with this whole "Women's Suffrage" nonsense while we're at it, yeah?"
Unbelievable.

I'm struggling to come up with good words to say how I feel but I at least wanted to say thanks to Izzle for thinking of me today.
Who is willing to adopt me? Or marry me? Get me outta here.
You'll always be welcome in Canada, Witty. I have a good friend in Portland who has been seriously looking into the possibility of emigrating his family to Vancouver should things go bad in November and 2024. He messaged me today to tell me that that process has now been sped up due to this horrible SC decision.

It won't be. These people wanted this or didn't care if they got it, so long as the pocket book looks good.

Everything is on the table now. If they overturned a landmark case, they can overturn anything.
The TX Republicans want to do away with the Federal Reserve and Federal Income Tax. Are the federal republicans less crazy? I think not.
Best of luck to him and Ginni when Loving gets overturned.
It is weird that Thomas did not include Loving. It is also a precedent that is based off substantive due process precedents. Hell, Obergefell was based on the Loving precedent.
