ME1 has almost no impact in this game, ME2 how ever does greatly. Make sure everyone survives and complete all loyalty missions. Also, the choice you make in each loyalty mission (when given a choice), you need to do correctly. For instance, make sure Tali isn't in Exile, and during Legion's you have to do something to (I forget, it's either destroy the thing or not). For certain characters to not die in ME3 you have to romance them. I'm sure blowing up the Collector base is important, but I'm not sure what the "right" choice is there.

Also, don't save the Rachni Queen. I can't believe how useless that ends up being, kill that useless butthole.

Ughhh, with all the stuff I've been hearing about the ending (I've managed to stay clear of spoilers), it's almost to the point where I don't want to finish the game and actually have a "pit" in my stomach just thinking about it.

the ending does stink, i just finished the game and was extremely let down (big spoilers below, don't read if you haven't finished the game)

Spoiler!

it's like Mass Effect 3 was designed with the ending in mind for those who are new to the series, as it's a slap in the face to those of us that have stayed with the story from the beginning

Here's a fantastic piece that succinctly explains exactly why the ending was such a huge disappointment. Well worth reading.

The article contains spoilers, obviously.

Quote:
Every moment of the game feels a necessary part of the war effort, every decision feels critical, and as you begin the final mission, you actually feel the weight of 5 years of play, dozens of well-written friendships, and 15,000 years of galactic civilization are behind you. It’s a glorious accomplishment. And that accomplishment is completely undone as the story is wrapped up via a barely-interactive cutscene lasting less than 10 minutes.

After reading this, I'm not sure if I want to beat the game anymore.

Spoilers for ME2 below (and very minor information about a plot point in ME3 that you surely knew was coming):

Spoiler!

This is hilarious if you've seen all three endings (and spoils nothing if you haven't got that far yet):

I finished up LA Noire last night and have Mass Effect 3 ready to go. For those completionists out there how is insanity? I'll be importing my Mass Effect 2 character who is a level 30 sentinel.

on ME1 and 2, my first playthrough was on Veteran difficulty. since there is no veteran for 3 (only hardcore and insanity) i did my first play on normal. and even then there were a couple of encounters that were pretty damn hard, had to retry them several times. not looking forward to those sections on my insanity playthrough

Ive only played about 10 hours so far (not much) but it sounds like im going to be relatively disappointed in the ending...

I swear most games now are huge let downs. (While i feel ME3 is pretty amazing with some of the things it does, having a mega fail for a story is a big problem)

The Gamefront quote posted by MarchHare above sums it up perfectly. I have heard so much about how bad the ending is, that I actually spoiled it for myself and read about it. I'm not so sure that I even want to finish the game now.

I can't remember exactly how Gears 3 ended, but that ending was a pretty good way to end the trilogy. Ended with some sadness, but was fairly satisfying. From everything I've read and heard from my brother the ending is a pretty big disappointment.

I'm not going to spoil the ending for myself. But if it's as artistic as the end of 2001 or as nihilistic as I'm hearing I may actually like it.

If I remember correctly if you played your second play through with the same character on insanity the enemies scaled with you. But if you started a new character on insanity it was an easier play through as the enemies aren't scaled. I was curious if the enemies would be scaled if I imported a ME2 character. I am up for a challenge but I don't want my first play through to be a death ridden grind.

i used my 2nd playthrough on my already maxed character in ME2 for insanity and it wasn't that bad. the hardest part was when you infiltrate the Collector ship and have to fight your way out, swore quite a bit and had to restart the whole mission with some tougher squadmates, but after that it was fairly smooth sailing. but in ME3 there are several encounters just like that one from ME2, where you get swarmed by a bunch of really tough enemies. those are gonna be a total bitch regardless of whether you import or not. personally i save the insanity playthroughs for a 2nd playthrough so i have my big guns (Black Widow FTW) and all the powers unlocked

I'm in the same boat, but I am still setting my expectations low encase it's neither of those two and something worse.

Jeez I'm going to have to hurry up and finish ME3, I don't know how much longer I can go without getting spoiled by accident.

Should I put that in spoilers? I don't know if it gives away anything or not.
