Boy, did Hawksworth and McIvor come off as asses in that 'debate'.

Nenshi has to support the Airport tunnel, whether he truly believes in it or not. I believe he does believe in it, for the record. His bread and butter is going to come from the North East. Respectively saying, not trying to be a racist here, but the East Indian/Pakistani community tend to stick to there own - if you know what I mean. They really seem to want there own community living situations, school environments, even some sports tournaments they run are all of one ethnicity.

There was a small news piece last year (I believe) of some community in the Northeast, which is predominantly Muslim, to have a religious-based community only (e.g., no non-Muslims). I think it made it to the media in some form or another, but the idea was shot down.

Mayoral Races in Canada

and this one from Mississauga...

Mayor Hazel McCallion has announced her decision to seek a 12th "and final" term at age 89, which will mean she will be pushing 94 if she remains in office for four more years, having first been elected by defeating an incumbent in 1978 in the suburban enclave west of Toronto. While credited with fostering the city's growth, McCallion's political career faced its first serious speed bump this year as revelations of her son's involvement in a new $1.5 billion hotel/convention centre and condominium complex became the subject of an ongoing judicial inquiry regarding whether the mayor influenced a $14.4 million land deal benefiting Peter McCallion. Carolyn Parrish, a former federal cabinet minister elected to council in 2006, must wait her turn to succeed her political nemesis "Hurricane" Hazel".

Rick Mercer did a special on her for his show. She's awesome. No debt and $700 million in the bank at the time it was filmed.

According to ZINC Research online poll the front runners are:

McIver: 40%
Higgins: 27%
Nenshi: 12%

I have no idea where this poll was..

They're brown dumpsters that say something like "Waste and Recycling Services" and I think they have a City of Calgary contact number on them. It's not the standard City of Calgary logo and it's pretty small, so you have to be standing pretty close to read it.

Where I live there are a bunch of apartment/condo buildings along the block, and each building has its own brown dumpster.

You'd think in a year with no encumbants that the candidates would be working harder to get their points across.

But I guess that general perception is better then platforms as Higgin's sits in 2nd place.

Hawkesworth is taking a solid beating in this poll, but the biggest mention is the 29% undecided.

I have no idea where this poll was..
Obviously at a retirement home or in a university...

The ZINC research poll revealed that 68% of Calgarians said they would definitely be voting on October 18th.

Listened to it.

Makes a good case for why we have forums as opposed to debates.

Now this is good news.

Even if the candidate i hate the most gets elected, if we can achieve a voter turnout in the range of 75% (hopefully even more), I will be a happy camper.

I want to see people take interest in their city government and community matters more than anything.

As soon as I read the 68% figure I knew the rest was ridiculous. The margin of error on that question is basically 35% alone I guess?

I think it was an online poll, and those are really sketchy. maybe the only online poll that Naheed hasn't won, other than Wayne Stewarts poll earlier in the thread!

As much as I'm a Naheed supporter, it's going to be tough for McIvor to lose this race. He's got much of conservative Calgary behind him. For reasons I'll never understand.

I have to say I agree with this. Even if the urban chicken farmer wins.

Kinda funny, eh? The pendulum is about to swing back to 10 years of Duerr.
