Just got Optik installed. It is just awesome. The internet is incredibly quick, and the HDTV picture is without doubt better than Shaw.

We're running 3 HDTV's, and the installer guy (who was great) said we're running either a 26 or 32 mbps profile. He said even if all 3 TV's are on we still have full 15 mbps internet, with overhead to spare.

In my area I never got that. Alway toped out at around 7 mbps. The Internet speed wasn't much of a problem, the TV however, was completely outdated and not worth the price we were paying.

When we were on Optik very briefly we had the 1HD/2SD as well, and I would very much like to be able to qualify for multiple HD streams. If we can do that, I'll gladly have Optik back in my house.

I'm on hold with Shaw right now on a different issue and the fact they have 'music box dancer' on loop makes me want to burn down every
SHAW office in country.

my ma got sick of paying $90 am month for the TelusHDtv/HighSpeed/Phone combo, so she called Telus today to cancel her contract, and when they forwarded her to the Canceling department they asked if she was canceling because she got a better offer. She was like "....yes. $10 for HDTV, 10 for Highspeed, and 10 for phone.... for six months!"
they told her she'd have that deal for a year.
We got the Basic plus HD sports package, highspeed internet, and phone (pointless w/e) for $30 a month.
call in people!
go travelling with your money instead!

Installation took about 15 mins... this is not to be expected for everyone tho. My modem is 10 feet from my TV along a wall so only an ethernet cable was really needed to be run. TV picture is on par with shaw, I cant tell the difference to be honest. The menu, as many have said, is light years ahead. Channels change instantly. My turbo connection pre tv was 12.75 pretty consistent, after the installation with HD on my TV I'm at 14.02. My upload has also gone up.
Overall, seems great.

the actinotec router that they use is great. holy snap! i am getting 12 down and 1 up 2 floors away, where normally the connection is quite spotty.
also the search functino is really cool and i may actually use it now. i typed in natalie portman and lets me know what movies are coming up with, tv shows, and even video on demand thats with her now.
this service is just decades beyond shaw.

Lots of reasons, run a webserver, static set a computer so you can remote from home etc etc etc.

Port forwarding is the biggest thing.
I'm also networking an XBox 360, Windows Vista HTPC, Windows 7 Laptop, MacBook Pro, and an iPhone together to use various services. Things just work much more reliably when you're using IP addresses for this instead of depending on the various methods of name resolution.
