I just realized, the signing of Travis Henry this offseason kind of negates Shanahan adhering to that philosophy doesn't it.

Yup...and lately he has brought in some questionable characters as well.
there was some discussion on one of the million ESPN radio talk shows today wondering if Shanahan might start to feel some heat in Denver.
Im thinking there is at least another year of good will left but its true every coach has a shelf life any more.

Another one of Whitlocks comments was that the difference between Schottenheimer and Shanahan is that Shanahan had Elway on his side instead of killing him every playoffs. Ever since Elway left his teams have been running teams that can play defence, but he also hasn't had a great deal of success yet in developing a QB. His words not mine, maybe there is an element of truth to it, although even when Marty had a past his prime Montana he couldn't win the big games, and I don't know if past his prime Montana was that much different than Elway when he won those Superbowls.

Well, he hasn't really HAD a young QB since Elway's departure. Griese took over, but it was his toughness and leadership not his play that saw him leave Denver. Cutler is really the first shot Shanahan has of proving he can do that. We'll see, so far so good.
I'd hate to see him leave. Stability is an underrated feature of an NFL coaching staff.

I think Shanahan has earned himself a little rebuilding time... 2 more seasons after this one if things arent going well. He's too good too let go.
OT - Displaced, are you seeing tornados tonight - the news says it's a crazy night for them.

More Griese's maturity and leadership.
The most impressive game I've seen live was when he dislocated his shoulder in the 1st Q, came back in the 3rd, couldn't throw the ball more that 15 yards but still battled back to help win via last second FG. Last MN game in the old Mile High I believe. Anyway, would disagree toughness was an issue. Getting drunk and falling down the stairs during house parties ... that may have played a bigger part.

Nothing close to us. We've had a couple of really nice early spring thunderstorms the last couple of days. 70 mph straight line winds and such. Kind of odd for October, even around here. I haven't been paying attention, they said where the tornadoes are occurring?

Kansas City through to New Orleans - Missouri, Mississippi Valley, etc... apparently it's a pretty impressive storm.

Sounds like the really nasty stuff is well east of us.
Evidently some significant wind damage here locally though.

Well despite all the arguing we do in this thread as to why the Pats are great or the Colts can take them...I think 90% of us would admit that these are the two best teams in the NFL. They are the only two unbeaten teams right now afterall.

Provoking artical from Jason Whitlock this week. How hip hop culture and bad apples could "Whiten" the NFL. Interesting perspective as the work done by guys like James Brown, Walter Payton and many other great players of the past who've helped open the door for 70% of the athletes to be of African American background is starting to be forgotten by some of the guys currently playing the game with the way they act and conduct themselves off field. The two best teams in the NFL right now...have the highest number of non african american players on their roster.

Interesting article.
The question, "Does hip-hip (or music in general) promote a culture or reflect it?" is probably good OT fodder.
Myself, while I think that is part of it, it is probably also related to the sense of entitlement that is developed as they were recognized as star athletes, and I don't think that issue is black or white. Ryan Leaf comes to mind, and to some extent so does Jeremy Shockey and some of the shenanigans he has pulled.

Some interesting quotes from Roy Williams on Jeff Garcia.
http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/a.../71018002/1049
Quote:
On why Jeff Garcia stunk in Detroit: Cause he blamed everybody else. He blamed everybody else but himself. Like it’s (the receivers’) fault. In the West Coast system, my son can run the West Coast system and he’s only two.
On what he thinks of Garcia: I mean, I respected the man but I just didn’t like the fact that it would be our fault and never his fault. With Jon, even if it’s our fault he’s like it’s my fault, my bad, I gotta make a better throw. But we know deep down inside we should have caught that ball or we should’ve run a better route. But that’s just what a quarterback should do. … It’s like if you run a route and if you drop it or the DB makes a good play, he gets all animated and gets jacked up, and it’s our fault we did this or it’s always the receiver fault.

You cant say youre surprised though. He's been behaved for 6 games... in a row. He also said point blank during the preseason that he cannot go a whole season without a confrontation/drama.
San Fran - Baltimore (Im still confused how he whined his way out of that trade) - Philly and now Dallas... the guy defines cancer.

In Williams' defense, Garcia did stink up the joint in Detroit and Cleveland... but then again, it is Detroit and Cleveland...
Williams is a chump... saying that he prefers Kitna because he takes blame for everything? That's the reason why Williams will never be mentioned in the same sentence as any legit #1 receiver.
