There is absolutely no reason why Janssen shouldn't be in the rotation next season. Assuming McGowan and Marcum finish the season strong, a starting rotation of this next season could be strong:
Halladay
Burnett
McGowan
Marcum
Janssen
All three young guys have been very strong this season and I'm hoping the Jays continue to ride them for the rest of this season.

With his luck I'm surprised he didn't foul it off his shin and break his leg.

Jays win 11-5, take 2 of 3 from the dodgers in LA, next up the Giants.

Is Chacin's contract up at the end of this year? Why is he not on that list?

Yes and no. Anytime you win a game that you were 4 hit in you are lucky.
So perhaps they should have won game 1, but LA should have won game 2.

truthfully the jays probably should have lost both games 1 and 2, penny was dominant in game 1. that's baseball though...gotta love it.

One of the real positives of this season is the play of Johnny Mac. The guy is just the perfect team guy. His decision to go 1st to 3rd in yesterday's game on a groundout was huge early in the game. As was his hustle play on Friday night to go all out on a pop out that was dropped, ending up on 2nd.
Just a treat to watch a guy play the game like that.

the thing I've loved about this team all season is that they never quit. And it's always soemone different making the plays that matter. Johnny Mac, Royce Clayton, Rios, Overbay, Hill, etc. Someone is always there to do something clutch. If we ever get the Big Useless and VW going, this team could do some damage.

Yeah no kidding and for some reason Wells frustrates me more. He doesn't seem bothered by his slump at all. He's always joking around after the game.
HIT THE DAMN BALL VERNON!
I've always wondered if the guy wasn't intense enough to be "the man" on a team.

So far I'm inclined to annoint CaramonLS as being bang on correct with Wells not even being remotely worth that money (especially for a team like the Jays who can't spend 200 million annually) You could move Rios into Centre field, and likley find a replacement hitter for 6 million to play Left field and be a productive hitter.
Matt Stairs has been a good acquisition though, 9 home runs in like his last 23 games and hitting close to .300 and about the only left handed Jays hitter with any pop now that Overbay is out. Not bad for a guy who signed a minor league contract.

guys who arn't afraid to take the bat off their shoulder and who posses the ability to hit anybody's fastball anywhere in the strikezone are fun to watch. he can really make things happen.

not to mention Stairs has hit one less homer than Thomas in a very limited role.

In fairness to Vernon Wells, I couldn't have even dreamed up a scenario where he would be THIS bad, at this point in the season. Maybe in year 6/7 of that contract I could think about it. But yeah, I have suggested that the Jays should have done exactly what you are saying prior to the beginning of the season.
Just to compare:
John MacDonald: .300/.320/.410
Vernon Wells: .254/.310/.401
Heck, the question now becomes, what the hell do we do with Rios? His numbers are actually on pace to be approaching what Vernon Wells has done in some of his Career years. He can play CF too, and is arguably more "toolsy" than Wells (arm + speed). Is he now worth another Vernon Wells contract? The Better question is, does HE think he is worth a Vernon Wells type deal.
I said that Wells would have to hit ~900 OPS to make the contract worth it, stay at CF (for the entire contract) and still provide gold glove defense. That mark has only been approached twice in his career and has only exceeded it one time.
I really hope he can get it turned around. I really do.

i'm pretty pumped about watching this series...i lovewatching games from some of those west coast national league parks (LA, SF, SD) that we seldom get to see, and when the jays are playing, it's even sweeter. Should be a good watch.

Guys like Stairs, Reed Johnson, and Johnny Mac you can never have enough of.
I love the late games. Nothing gets in the way and actually gives me a chance to watch a full game. Bonds should have a good chance to tighten the gap on Aaron tonight with Towers serving up beachballs.
