WC2 would be delightful so they get to play in the central division bracket.

I can't think of an example of a team in a playoff position firing their coach in mid march. Is there a precedent?

The underachieving teams that were supposed to be good usually fire their coaches in like november/december/january.

It is delightful that we are even having this discussion.

I still desperately want to make a Pacific spot and play the Oilers 1st round. I think they're easy fodder this year, and I want the Flames to be the team to set in motion the cataclysm of events this summer beginning with an early playoff exit and McDavid not signing an extension.

Lomberg getting a crack at them two playoffs in a row would be a treat. Pospisil would be Tkachuk 2.0.

Honestly, with how bad this Oilers team is currently, I think the Flames would give them fits over a 7 game series. Their terrible D and goaltending makes them vulnerable.

I’m not sure McAci leaving is the result we want. His huge contract handcuffs what they can do, and he has probably peaked.

Who is going to go to Edmonton if Mavi isn't there? They will have to overpay for any impact player, and we have witnessed their track record of developing their own prospects. They will again go all in again next year and leverage picks from 2027 and potentially 2028. When Mavi leaves it is only a short time before Pissy asks for a trade.

And then they're back into the lottery for a decade, surely winning it a few times in that span, ruining more careers of future stars. Maybe for the good of hockey they should stick with McDrai for another 12 and do absolutely nothing with it.

Robbie Ftorek was fired with 9 games left in the regular season in 2000, and the Devils still won the Cup that year.

Nah I definitely want McDavid out of Edmonton.

They will #### up that cap space, so no worries.

How many blocks could a Knoblauch block if a Knoblauch could block blocks?

Then you can make other 'knob and blocking' jokes, but those are rather uncouth and offensive so we'll leave that there.

There are only so many NHL jobs and $ to go around. The Jets have built a contender.

Also Lou fired Claude Julien just a week before the end of the season in 2007 and stepped in himself behind the bench.

They won one round that year.

Update on post from previous thread - McDavid has completely checked out after the Four Nations where he got a taste of what life will be like 18 months from now. Just going through the motions.

9 GP
2 goals (1 powerplay)
9 assists (5 powerplay)
11 points (6 powerplay)
Outscored 14-6 at even strength - yes, on the ice for 14 goals against in 9 games.

Per Hockey Reference.
