I would look at it as Calgary and New Jersey have been talking and Conroy just so happens to mention an opportunity for cheap draft pick

Would be cool if we signed Lindholm for 7x7 and Tanev at 2.75x3 this off-season.

The thing is with the style he plays and how much the physicality amps up in the playoffs it might be a question of how long he lasts. I hope the best for him but it would be kinda funny if he gets injured in the first round and the Stars still make the Finals. It isn't that unrealistic that the Stars end up paying a 2nd, a prospect, and possibly a 3rd for nothing.

Yeah, there is no reason to think that he didn't take the same approach as with the Lindholm deal. Dallas probably made the best offer to date and said they needed a decision because they had a plan B in place. Conroy would have then went back to the other teams and said make your best offers now. If there was a 1st on the table, he probably would have taken it. Insider reports up until now said Conroy was holding out for a 1st, but no one was offering one.

Maybe if he waited until closer to the deadline, a team would have capitulated and offered a 1st, or maybe you end up with a 3rd. Or maybe a Cammalleri situation.

Keeping in mind Iginla only got back a late 1st and two C prospects, I think Tanev for a 2nd and B prospect is pretty good.

Must be something like that, else why would NJD do us a solid?

Explain it to me because I am dumb.
There has to be another deal brewing between Calgary and New Jersey....there is just way to much of coincidence going on here with all the recent trade chatter between these clubs

The bigger Q is why Dallas thinks they need that 1.125M in Cap room. It gives them a total of about $2M, which makes me think they want to make another move for a player at that salary (retained).

They should trade Hanifin to Vegas now to complete the bolstering of the Oilers' most likely opponents.

Well you try your best to shoot for 2 for Tanev. But what a great mentor he would be for the next core of D. There's no player I'd want more for that. It would pay off in more ways than just his play.

And hedge our bets by getting a conditional pick if Vegas makes the finals

The historical data also basically says you shouldn’t waste your time picking past the second round.

Yet here we are.

There isn't any model out there that will look at a player with no points and put a positive light on him.

I put some faith in our scouts. He's spent a season in the AHL developing, maybe his defensive game or shoring up weaknesses has taken significant strides since these writeups occurred. Guess we will see.

Tons of people are underwhelmed I can understand it. Considering this was the best deal offered, thank goodness it wasn't a different deal or people would have been in shambles. I do wish the 3rd was based on WCF or something more favorable considering the retention.

All things considered, I give this a 7/10.
