Hubes 9 points in 16 gp
JG 6 points in 17 gp (oof)
At this point at least Jarmo might not hang up the phone immediately.

If you can get Gaudreau for Huberdeau, you start the car. I don't care who's been more productive recently. Johnny is signed two years less and you can buy him out if you need to. Huberdeau's contract is a complete albatross.

The only reason you would make this trade is so you can buy out the contract.
Johnny is not a better player.

I was at the CBJ game against the Pens on Tuesday. I was trying to keep my eye on Gaudreau. He actually saw more ice time than I thought he was going to but did nothing with it. Did not seem engaged out there. Him being benched in 3rd periods when the game is on the line speaks volumes.

As rough as things have been for Huberdeau, I cannot believe people are seriously still clamoring for Gaudreau, especially with how he's been playing. I don't care about contract stuff, it's not worth it to have a guy that doesn't play defense anymore, and cannot (or will not) work to create offense. The guy is checked out and doesn't seem to care at all. That's not something you want to have around any sort of a rebuild.
Say what you want about Huberdeau's abilities of late, but he absolutely cares and is still trying. There's a significant difference in the character of these two guys and I'm fine with Huberdeau as long as he's still putting in the effort. I still genuinely believe he'll get back to around a point per game player. Not so sure that Gaudreau will based on those sorts of efforts.

Yeah,I think with Huberdeau he is almost trying to much rather than letting the game come to him naturally. Confidence is so critical at this level. I hope he can build off that game against the Canucks.

Huberdeau is very likable to me. Doesn’t look like he is checking out. He just doesn’t get the help he needs and that’s on the wizard and now Conroy
Still Gaudreau dominated at time when he was here and much more exciting to watch
I have not followed him in Columbus so no idea if he checked out or not. He is not a big guy so may be he hit a wall.

The dweeb on the PP alone would be worth bringing him back.

When it comes to Gaudreau I can see it two ways. First is he has checked out, got his payday, and chose a market like Columbus to collect his money in peace.
On the other side we could be watching a guy who is deeply depressed about the horrible life choice he made to leave millions on the table and a legacy he was building here in order to relocate and he truly regrets his decision. Maybe he and the coach have a different opinion on how the game is played. Is there a chance a fresh start or a do over in terms of coming back to Calgary would rejuvenate him? Or is he cooked?
Huberdeau came here when he wasn’t expecting it and had a ton of pressure to replace not one but two franchise wingers who left. He got all the money and likely put a lot of pressure on himself. His confidence was shattered and once he regains it he will get back to his old ways? Or is it the fact he is a high risk East-West player who cannot fit into a north-south style of play and as some analysts have said his style of play is not conducive for playoff or western conference style so he will never be the player in Calgary that he was in Florida?
I am not sure the answer for either player and if it wasn’t for uncle Jim saying on Twitter that Johnny would want to come back it probably wouldn’t be discussed as much as it has. We have seen Johnny dominate at times in Calgary and he knows how to succeed in the West and we haven’t seen it yet from Huberdeau.
Huberdeau is a super likable guy and very polished in the media and that is something Gaudreau has never been good at. I want Huby to work out but after almost 100 games it is tough to see him ever sniffing at earning that massive cap hit. I think if the Flames could find a way to get out from under that deal it would be the best thing for the organization. Obviously Huby returning to the player he was from 19-22 would be the most ideal but I just don’t see that happening in Calgary.

We all know what the contract differences are. The more important question is: who is going to be the better player going forward. If they become buyout candidates, they are both failures. But it's too early for that - the issue right now is getting them playing well, and being productive players.
And as far as that goes, Huberdeau shows up every night and tries - can't say the same for Gaudreau.

Assuming they never produce at their pay grades, and assuming you can’t lose the contracts, who is a better guy to have around with a rebuilding team?
I may have missed it but I never heard teammates talk about Gaudreau like Dube talked about Huberdeau last night. It was like how some of them talked about Monahan playing through his pain. I think Gaudreau had a small circle of teammates who he hung with. Huberdeau seems to be more of a whole team guy.

To be fair, when Gaudreau was here, he didn’t need any teammates to pump his tires because he was the best player every year and was the alpha dog in that room. Everyone sees Huberdeau struggling. I’m not a fan of the guy but even I have sympathy for him so obviously his teammates will too. The dynamic is totally different.
We never heard anything about Gaudreau not getting along with his teammates when he was here so there is no need at all to question Gaudreau’s likability in the room. I’m fact, we know he is still best buds with lots of guys on the Flames, including Lindy and Mange.

Don't think of it as Huberdeau for Gaudreau. Think of it as a terrible contract for a terrible but much less terrible contract.

Yup, damage control. Just like in the other thread with the Colorado proposal Kadri for Johannson and Girardi. Anything to take those 2-3 years off the back end as we start to hopefully be competitive again after a re-shuffletoolwhatever

I would take Johnny back in a minute over Huberdeau and with shorter term and extra million savings no brainer, but Huberdeau would not waive for Columbus, but Gaudreau might as he knows he should have stayed here.

Gaudreau is not going to age well. He game relies on elite level elusiveness, as soon as he loses half a step he will struggle.

A. Gaudreau wasn't the best player on the team every year. Some years in there it was Gio, some it was Tkachuk.
B. I'm not talking about tire pumping, I'm talking about the tone of voice when teammates talked about him. When he got his finger broken from slashes, at least some of his teammates were "meh, it happens".
C. When did you hear about JG working hard at practice, spending time with the kids, wanting to be a leader? I'm not saying he was disliked or had issues with teammates. It's just that he seemed to ahve a pretty small circle.
