This math is off because Calgary acquired one of those 1sts.
So Calgary is net even on 1sts, Florida is -2.
Not suggesting Florida is worse off overall.

yes, this past summer...he was referencing Marner and Matthews when he says "they're" and also talking about his own experience in Canada

I really don't think it's a cup or bust mentality up here except for in Edmonton and Toronto which are toxic organizations.
In Calgary it seemed like expectations were in check, at least from the outside.
But maybe internally there were pressures we didn't see.
All i know is expecting the Flames to go further than they did in 18/19 and 21/22 wasn't outrageous at all given that they won their division and were by all accounts and measures a top team.
Those were the only times I can think where the team didn't measure up and had reason to be "crucified".. and even then I doubt it was that bad.
In Edmonton you would have 12 guys trying to play psychologist asking passive aggressive questions after every loss. Calgary was hardly that. Unless Francis bugged him THAT much.

I think the vibe around here has been disproportionately intolerant of the people voicing displeasure with the direction of the team. Just as there's a difference between blind optimists and supportive fans, there's a difference in those who bring in chronic negativity and those who seriously question what is happening with the direction of this team and not being supportive of it.
"Don't complain because nothing will change" or "why do you even cheer for the team if they're causing you such misery?" are commonly cited reasons to shut this position down.
While I don't agree with rubbing 9 games of a slow start in anyone's face, I understand why some people feel a bit vindicated for seeing what we thought would happen start to play out.

until you realize he was bragging about being "right" about the old core 3 years ago lol
I'm supposedly the biggest optimist on CP and I thought they might be a playoff team or potentially even in a division spot IF Markstom, Kadri, and Huberdeau had a bounce back
1 out of 3 ain't gonna cut it.

There are extremes on both sides (^that bragging being an example), which has made the vibes around here straining at times.

on a FLAMES FAN board you might expect people to be oh I don't know...biased towards the Flames lol
guy calls the Flames a bottom 5 team for a decade and gets it right once (maybe) and plans a parade in his own honor

I'm just exciting/looking forward to the point that 91 and 10 jerseys start getting tossed onto Saddledome ice along with sarcastic "Huby" and "Kadri" chants (maybe something more clever) from the Flames faithful.
That will be the most rewarding game action all season me-thinks
(If anyone thinks this was over the top, lol take a pill)

Looking forward to a jersey toss? What are you, 10 years old? Flames fans don't do that. And who would want to see it (other than an Oiler fan)?

Unfortunately it has happened. I recall Tom Kostopolous picking up the jersey and throwing it back over the glass to the fan who threw it.

If this team wants to garner some goodwill they have to beat the Oilers at least occasionally.
A complete no-show against their Rivals on National TV?
Inexcusable.
What a s*** show.

While it's true that some posters may have gone overboard with some of their comments, I think it's perfectly fair for fans to vent their frustration with the team's stubborn insistence on staying in win-now mode for far too long, while ignoring clear warning signs that continuing for forge ahead with the players they had would not lead to good results, neither in the short term nor the long term.
I don't know how anyone could have looked at, for example, the playoff loss to Colorado in '18-'19, and come away from it thinking no worries, that was a one-off, this team will eventually get things figured out in the playoffs.
And while it's true that the Johnny era ended 16 months ago when he walked in free agency, and the 14-22 core is gone, it's fair to point out that the current core wasn't built through the draft, but was instead thrown together with a trio of mega contract signings, only one of which appears to be fruitful. Again, the product of staying in win-now mode for too long (and passing on a golden opportunity to enter a rebuild in a super deep draft year).

If this version of the Flames can't get it together then it could be a really long few years ahead.
The cupboards are bare, the 'core' is aging, where is there any hope for a Stanley Cup? There isn't any and I dont see a window, I dont even see a foundation.
I really thought Kadri and Huberdeau would rebound and be the top forwards we expected them to be. So far, I was totally wrong.
