You just can't dump everyone. There's a middle ground and it's - if done with care and thought and planning - the optimal path. I'm not smart enough to know what that is, but I'm pretty sure that the radical crap spewed on here by some posters isn't "it".
Oh yeah, if people are expecting Huberdeau or Kadri to get traded any time soon (if ever), I think they’re out to lunch.

I generally think the best approach right now is gather as many future related assets (picks, prospects) and load the system up that way. I don’t know if this team will ever outright tank, I doubt it - but the next best thing is to get ruthless on trading players for futures. We need the bullets in the chamber, and if we can hit on enough of them we then stand a chance to build a team filled with youth that can perhaps bring in the next wave of Flames hockey that maybe even makes use of Huby and Kadri’s time here in Calgary.

I think you're locked into Weegar and Huberdeau. The rest? Freaking giver

And I definitely think Kadri can be moved.

I don’t get it. Pay Huberdeau $84M instead of slashing payroll for a couple years and getting some guys who can sell you jerseys for 10-15 years.
Who in Canada are spending more money than the Flames?

He did give Treliving enough to build a contender. It’s not his fault Treliving wasted a lot on useless UFAs

Now they are in a tough spot after the mess Treliving created and ran.

Not a contender, not in position to rebuild properly

I can't see how we are going to be able to move Coleman, Hubredeau or Kadri's deal without attaching picks to pay teams to take them and that defeats the purpose during a rebuild.

Nobody except Treliving wanted to sign him for free

Who is going to take that contract now after the stunt he did?

That’s why you just sit back with them and don’t add to the problem.

I think Weegar is infinitely more movable then Kadri

Keep Weegar. Has heart.

Please trade Kadri. He’s a whiner and quitter. What he pulled against Chicago is inexcusable. Do not want to see him in a Flames jersey again.

Yes, but I don't see the Flames moving him at all. They love him.

Deal them all and don't look back. We've got enough long-term problems with Kadri and Huberdeau without adding another headache to the pile.

Jesus, we don't know anything. At least on ice we know Kadri had attitude issues. WYF has Huberdeau done to part of the problem? Why because he signed a contract?

You can’t move all of them right now or this off-season or during the next season.

What you can do is recognize that the collection of players you have assembled is not good enough to do anything except get speed bagged in the first round by the eventual champions à la Nashville last year with a Colorado and the Jets this year against Vegas, and allow your new GM to sell off the assets he has in due course, with the goal of assembling a new group of young, fast, talented players who can actually contend when your $1.2B arena project opens to the public.

None of these players have a reason to want to be here except for money and you can’t win anything when that’s your only motivation.

Because you’ll be playing against teams with more and better players who play for each other because they grew up together.

It’s very true for that contract. The Isles or Jersey showed some interest but they didn’t want to give him what he wanted. He had to wait a long time

Anyway after he quit on the team, I doubt anybody value him the same way

Dud is 33 and about to start a long term overpaid contract

He has no real value

That makes sense then. Also other teams were willing to sign Kadri, unfortunately he just chose the Flames

Weegars contract is good for what he is, RH top pairing guy who eats a ton of minutes.

About to start? He started last season

Your link says the Islanders wanted to sign him but couldn't clear the cap

Teams were trying to get Weegar at the deadline, you could trade him in about 30 seconds

Some odd takes on CP

Weegar is the best shot-suppression D at 5v5 in the entire league.
