I would have no issues with him being hired. Though, unless he truly has no offers, Calgary may be a viable or the only option for him. No way Edwards pays for him and have Sutter on the payroll though.
Florida should have brought him back, rather than Maurice.

Until it isn't, then everyone complains about the coach or trading players again.

I’m not a Sutter hater, but ever since he was hired he has talked about the Flames not being a high-skill or high-talent team. Even when we had the best line in the NHL.
I think it was a reference to the Oilers and Avs, but it always rubbed me the wrong way. I can only imagine how the Flames top players would perceive it.

Sutter has always relished in playing the underdog card and by no means did he mean disrespect towards Johnny and Tkachuk. It was a strategic play that he used in 04 and during his cup runs in LA.
He wasn’t sugarcoating it this year though. The team did not have a lot of high skill or elite talent. Can’t argue that when you compare to the playoff teams.

Or, you could read the exact opposite into it and that Sutter is on the way out. Maybe he was on the ice for the entire last practice to get a feel for the players' attitudes outside of the departing coach's feedback.
Man, spinning narratives based on nothing sure is easy!

Too busy with MC reports at CNRL. Doesn’t have time for media.

Sutter is far from the owner's (representative) boy.
Edwards was the one that didn't want him going back downstairs and being coach again like Sutter wanted after the team never gave Playfair a chance in 2006-2007.
He brought in the former GM, as an assistant GM as a snake in the grass, as a clear message to Sutter.
Edwards was the one who overruled the other owners, who managed to convince Edwards keep Sutter after the 09-10 season, but then couldn't stop Edwards from firing him at the end of Dec 2010, as Sutter had too much control of everything, in his opinion.
Installing and falling for the schtick of the blowhard of a GM was massive mistake that Edwards didn't take long to realize. The only bullet in the former's GM gun wa the promise that his relationship with Brad Richards would have him land Richards to come here. When that didn't occur, the former GM had as much clue and contacts in the league as he did in the years unemployed after Tampa, writing sporadically for Spector's Hockey News. Toss in his treating of Iginla on the way out and his slimy reputation around the league, and then the ROR unmitigated disaster, and Edwards had to clean up the mess by trying to woo Shanahan and then giving Burke a blank cheque to come here and rebuilt the franchise reputation Sutter built, which the former GM sewered.
Ken King had a much better relationship with Sutter, Edwards didn't end up liking the control Sutter had over everything at the end, but again, the grass was far from greener on the other side at the time as he found out.

I get that lots don't like Salim Valji, but if you're TSN and Flames PR tries to tell you to replace an employee on the beat of covering them, it better be for legit inappropriate & unprofessional behavior. Otherwise mind your own ****ing business. Everyone can think of 2-3 people you need to fire in your own house

In that scenario you have to sell high on Toffoli and it would be an excellent return. Between Lindholm, Backlund and Toffoli you could really get a haul of picks and prospects that could kickstart a proper rebuild.
|
If you’re doing that you might as well trade Markstrom too.

Lindholm, Backlund, and Toffoli have positive trade values at their terms and AAVs. Markstrom doesn't.
If they do all that, keep Markstrom.

Powerplay Quarterback

Backlund said he wants to win. And he doesn't see this team has a potential to win. Many good players wanted out as they know there is not much cap space and they don't want take less to play non contender team. They know.
Then how the management believe they have chance to win.
For me this is the time to start complete rebuild whole organization.

It was brought up earlier in the year when Valji ran to another radio station to tell all about what Sutter may or may not have said off the record (I think about Phillips).
The beat reporters, if they want the interviews and inside status to be able to have the direct player and coach access to provide the public comments and interviews, have to keep the off the record stuff they get told or hear about etc, actually off the record...that's not just here, that's everywhere.
Francis definitely sometimes walks that fine line but Valji has seemingly crossed over it. If he doesn't have the trust of the PR team or coaches or players, he won't be given access to coaches or players and then he is basically useless to TSN for Flames coverage (if TSN cares).

Yeah, after the Peters thing, I bet they want to stay away from a coach with baggage.
