He might be able to get something from ICBC, if he has a permanent impairment. That's difficult to prove for someone who's likely already not working and has a variety of disabilities though.

Not entirely correct. You get compensated for medical expenses and lost wages, but the damages are set, so suing is not necessary as the award mostly set in stone

Yup. That's why I said he might be able to get something from ICBC. He can't bring a lawsuit against the driver or the police though.
Once again, given his current issues, I doubt he'll qualify for anything more than treatment expenses. You generally would not qualify for any non wage related damages unless it's a catastrophic injury, like loss of a limb, paralysis, or a severe brain injury.

Gas prices in Vancouver up $0.38 in a week as of today to around $2.33/liter, with forecasts to climb higher still. Crazy. It's now around $0.40-$0.50 more in Vancouver than in the Okanagan.

We're climbing again, and will see an extra 4.5 cents pushed into the price next week. Not saying we're anything like BC, but I'm a little disappointed as it felt like we were starting to go back into some normalcy, now we're trending back up again.

Having a thread for bashing BC is kind of weird right?

Might be tempered a bit by the switch to cheaper to produce winter gas:

The OP is from Vancouver and shared a link from the Vancouver Sun about a life satisfaction study.
Doesn't seem like anyone's bashing BC; more just sharing anecdotes and opinions on what's contributing to the lack of life satisfaction, such as real estate prices and gas that costs you $1/litre more than the province next door...
Weird take.

It is, but in a man bites dog kind of way. Usually when there is bashing, it is people from Vancouver bashing Calgary.

The Okanagan has gone down a little, but Vancouver has gone up a lot. I can't recall another time that had a 30+% difference in price between Vancouver metro and another region of the province that's so nearby.

I'm down with it. If you spend enough time in the Vancouver/Vancouver Island you will see/hear a lot of Alberta bashing.

Gaswizard.ca founder Dan McTeague told Global News B.C. that there was already a tight supply for gasoline on the West Coast of the U.S. before the Phillips 66 refinery in Ferndale, Washington, was shut down for maintenance.
It has a refining capacity of 16,590,000 litres of gasoline per day.
There's only one oil refinery in southwestern B.C. The Burnaby Refinery was purchased by Parkland in 2017 and refines 8,745,000 litres per day—slightly more than half of what's produced at the Phillips 66 facility.

Refinery shutdown. This is what happens when you have demand and no supply.

Clearly I've been spoiled being born and raised in Calgary -- I can't imagine being forced to move elsewhere, either due to housing costs or even just for better work opportunities.
That said, I wouldn't mind retiring out on Vancouver Island, although I shudder to think what things might look like in another 20 years...

Ambitious, and at first glance deems fairly carefully considered.

The BC tax enforcement on home owners with poverty-level incomes will help with the international students going to UBC living out of houses in North Van.
Also like the rule preventing flipping within 2 years of purchase.
Lots to like.
