GMG that in an effort to save money on sidewalk repairs, the City now just puts ugly asphalt across a section of cracked or chipped sidewalk instead of actually repairing it. Looks awful. I would rather have cracks and chips than look like a patchwork trailer park.

WGMG is that people seem to think that 4way flashers are a replacement for lights. Just finished driving through that awesome storm. Had a blast doing it. The number of incompetents I saw white knuckling it on Deerfoot with their lights off but 4 ways on was mind boggling.

Temporary fix maybe? I don't think asphalt repairs survive very long and they separate from the concrete over time.

I hate stairs in office buildings that have no risers. It triggers vertigo.

That probably a temporary fix. I can take several years for the city to get to pouring new cement so they use asphalt as a temporary fix. This is exactly what happened on a street I once lived.

Yeah a "temporary fix" and by temporary, they mean 6 years. It wasn't like it was rebar sticking out of giant frost heaves. I highly doubt they will be zipping out to fix it anytime soon. It's just such an odd fix. It would be like if I ripped my jacket and to repair it I sewed a giant "I Love Edmonton" patch on it.

I still remember when Calgary was all solid greens for left turns, it was glorious. What a pain in the ass that 90% of intersections are a full 4 way light cycle wait if you're looking to turn left.
Especially long light cycle roads like McLeod.

And the longer you wait the more likely people are to pick up their phones and be distracted when the light does turn green. I’m not always in a hurry, and I don’t expect other people to be either, but a turning lane is the #1 place where you should be ready to step on it to get as many cars through the cycle as possible before it ends.

Too many #### drivers that can't negotiate a turn made this happen.

What is going on with the weather this year in Calgary? It is really grinding my gears. Last year may have been one of the warmest Springs and early Summers in the city that I can remember, and this year it is easily one of the worst that I can remember.
We should certainly not be battling repetitive near Lethbridge style winds and hardly any days consistently above 20 degrees in late June. The next few weeks don't look a whole lot better with a ton of sub 20, windy days in the forecast

You'd think with never ending property tax increases they'd be able to spring for some actual cement.....again, you get what you vote for and its very clear that nobody really cares about doing things the right way in council/mayors offices.
Instead it's all about diverting tax dollars to the flavour of the week program and spreading services paper thin. Just try to drink a coffee while driving on half the roads in the city and they are no better than the sidewalks!

A lot of times they do temporary sidewalk repairs to make it safe, then when it makes sense they replace the whole thing. Doing small concrete repairs one at a time isn't very economical.

I'm fairly certain a healthy segment of the City of Calgary workforce are full on malicious compliance when it comes to doing their job. The recycling truck driver will get out of his truck, tie a little note placard to my blue bin telling me it needs to be 10 more cm out from my fence and then hop in his truck and drive away. The sidewalk in question was in no way dangerous. If you aren't going to fix it, leave it.

This. Asphalt is a temp fix until the next crew comes to reform the curb. Then a crew comes to pour the curb, but as concrete volume goes, yards of concrete only have so much time in the truck before it firms up so they need an efficient collection of forms.
Then another crew has to come to remove the forms before the final crew can come to pour and finish the sidewalk. Usually winter comes somewhere in between these steps.
You'll accept your asphalt and learn to like it.
I should add, a major burden on this situation is the massive amount of infill construction that breaks the sidewalks for utility connections. There's some in my neighbourhood that have been asphalt patches for a year but they're on a list. Way down a list.

Yeah, the ‘temporary’ fix in front of my building was done over 15 years ago. I used to call and ask about it every few years and I was always told it would happen ‘soon’. I haven’t even bothered calling for probably 7 or 8 years, as it’s just a waste of my time.

Eating out at a restaurant in a large group. For a million reasons it is the absolute worst. I don’t understand why people do it, or why others try to pressure people into going with them.
Anything more than a table of 4 is a headache waiting to happen.

If the recycling truck driver didn't tie the placard to your bin you wouldn't know why he didn't pick it up, and if he just moved your bin the 10 cm and picked it up you wouldn't learn to position it properly yourself.
