It'll definitely be interesting to see what Sutter does next season if Markstrom tosses out another stinker when they play the oilers.
At some point you have to give Vladar a chance to beat them if Marky keeps giving games away against them.

While Markstrom was below average in that series, we need to quit giving McDavid and Draisaitl grade A chances.

Of course, but it wasn't just in that series.
He was bad in all but one regular season game vs the oilers too.
So, like I said, if that continues next season it'll be interesting to see how Sutter reacts.

Yes but they tend to go together. Bad goaltending-> more chances, more chances -> bad goaltending.

How does that work? How does bad goaltending lead to more chances, aside from maybe rebounds (which wasn’t an issue)? And how does the team allowing more chances lead to bad goaltending? It just means that even a good goaltender will allow more goals because of sheer volume and quality of chances.
Markstrom wasn’t great. But aside from game one, which he won, shots weren’t simply going through him. The big complaint seems to be he didn’t make up for the team in front of him allowing 10 bell chances by standing on his head.

Sometimes poor goaltending causes a team to play differently in front of them. They lose confidence and start making mistakes.

That wasn’t what happened here IMO. The Flames just weren’t good form the get go.

That's fine, but I guess the other poster sees it differently than you.
Myself, I think Markstrom wasn't solely to blame, but he was the biggest weakness vs our #1 rivals this season.
If I'm right, it's a problem that needs to fixed if he struggles again next season. As in, try the other goalie.

I just don’t think he was the biggest weakness at all. The team checking game was IMO.
And I don;t have the confidence in Vladar that a lot of people do. I think he’s fine as a very young backup but he is very loosey goosey in the net.

Our biggest problem was our best defence man (easily) was out, until he played with one arm.

I think the fact that Tanev is our best defenseman is a bigger issue.

Quoted for truth.
I believe the Flames will try and address the #1 D position this off-season. Chycrun comes to mind, but I don't know if he's actually good enough for the role.
I also wonder about Klingberg even though I know the contract will be an albatross.

Well, neither of those guys is as good as Tanev. Chycrun would be cool though.

To me Chycrun just doesn't seem good enough to be a legit #1. I mean he's good, just not franchise altering good. If they want a guy like that, they need to draft him.

Tanev would be the best defensive defenceman on a lot of teams. Obviously not best all round defenceman, but if the topic is specifically containing McDrai, the D zone is the focus and IMO he’s top 3 in that area, especially when 100%.
Unless there’s a reboot or a huge trade, the top 3 to 4 D are set though.

Ya, and that's part of the problem, it's set without a #1. Having 4 really good D isn't as good as 1 great D and 3 good D. Makar did a pretty good job with Mcdingus...and puts up huge points.

Well Makar is a generational player. They don’t grow on trees. And when Calgary had a really good one lined up, he forced a trade.
Calgary did beat a team with Heiskenan.

Chychrun would easily become the #1 on this team. Having a top 4 of Chychrun-Tanev and Hanifin - Andersson would be pretty solid. Offer Valimaki + 1st + more to get it done.
