Unfortunately both the Millers and Meyer-Crothers families getting threats wouldn't surprise me.

"It's unfortunate. I'm sad it had to come down to it. I wish none of this had happened," Meyer-Crothers said in a phone interview. "There's nothing to be happy about. He's a good player, and deserves to be in the NHL."

The victim still has more empathy for the abuser after everything that has happened. Good for him. He will go a LOT further in life than Miller will.

So the spin coming out now is the Coyotes were aware of the conviction but didn't know the full details and will be conducting an "internal investigation" on how that could happen. Also there were supposedly gasps in other team's war rooms when the Coyotes took Miller because they were surprised the Coyotes would do this.

The victim's mother seems like a really good person. What a tragic story this has become.

I really hope Miller prepares a sincere apology, but I fear this instead could build more hatred.

The unfortunate effects of Cancel Culture can be that the victim who never asked for any of this is made out to look like they are the one who vindictively wants to make sure the abuser is denied every opportunity in life. Clearly not the case here, but there are still those who may opt to see it this way.

The victim here clearly does not want this. You have to feel bad for not only the abuse that was suffered, but now it's being put on a bigger stage.

People make mistakes, and most of us will do something in our life that we learn to regret. I know I certainly have, and hate my younger self for some of those dumb choices. But if we expect everyone to always be perfect and essentially want to condemn someone for life if they do something terrible or even less than ideal, I don't know if that is the best path if the bad person can come to recognize that they were a bad person. I do believe in redemption for those who deserve it. Mitchell Miller may not be in a place yet though where he is fully deserving of it.

So the victim isn’t as vindictive as the online outrage mob. What a shock.

I would hope so too, but his problem now is that because he never apologized or showed any outward remorse in the last 4 years, it's going to be almost impossible for him to say anything that doesn't ring completely hollow and seem like he's just trying to salvage his career, after having experienced actual consequences for his behavior.

I think it's pretty clear that the Coyotes knew what they were doing, taking a player with clear issues but top-end talent because of the draft picks they lost. I'm sure they figured they could weather the bad press by putting a "redemption" spin on it but maybe didn't anticipate the Meyer-Crothers family speaking out and the attention it would bring.

The Coyotes still look like scumbags even after renouncing the pick but they put themselves in a no-win situation and ultimately this is the right thing to do. This has become a big story and other young hockey players are being shown that they can't expect to do whatever they like and know that their talent/privilege will gift them a second chance. Hopefully, out of all this ugliness they can reflect on how they treat others, and not just for the betterment of their career, but just to be a decent human being.

So what's the alternative? Turn a blind eye to the racism like we did for the last 6000 years? Why shouldn't he have to face repercussions for his actions?

Keeping in mind, being released by an NHL team is hardly a mob cornering him and tearing him to pieces. He lost out on a privilege that many others would kill for but he's a free unharmed person.

I’m not going to criticize the Coyotes for doing the right thing. They messed up by drafting him, sure, but they essentially wasted a draft pick doing it.

I still go back to the fact that he apologized to every NHL team in an attempt to raise his draft stock, but not to the victim. What a selfish little prick.

This would have been totally different had he just apologized (genuinely) to his victim. The fact that he didn’t even do that speaks volumes. Nobody deserves a second chance, but everybody can earn a second chance in my books. He hasn’t earned it and unfortunately for him he likely never will. Any apology now will just come off as “I’m sorry this ruined my hockey career” and not a true apology.

Miller was dropping N bombs towards Isiah, in grade two.
I doubt it wasn’t learned from home.

She's not. She's a Karen. When her husband assaulted one of their kid's soccer coach, it came out in the investigation that she'd been after the coach since the first tournament of the season because he didn't play her kid enough or some other nonsense.

Sylvania Soccer Dad Charged With Assault

Quote:
Mr. Crothers is the husband of Joni Meyer-Crothers and father of Isaiah Meyer-Crothers, both of whom were at the center of bullying case at McCord Junior High School during the 2015-2016 school year.

...

The police report related to Mr. Crothers' case is 18 pages long and includes 12 pages of emails detailing the altercation and three emails from Mrs. Meyer-Crothers criticizing Mr. Kain and Pacesetter Soccer Club. Several emails have passages praising Mr. Kain's character and expressing astonishment at what occurred.

The argument allegedly stems from a lack of playing time for one of the Crothers' kids.

...

Ms. Meyer-Crothers also allegedly said she would go to the press regarding how Pacesetter treats its players unfairly if Mr. Acuna did not set up a meeting with the Crothers and Mr. Kain.
Yeah, a real saint there.

Police investigate alleged assault at Pacesetter Park

Quote:
SYLVANIA, OH (WTOL) - Sylvania Township Police released Wednesday its initial report into an incident that some say goes against a family's efforts to end bullying.
I'll say...

Biological? Or one of the 50 she’s fostered?
