Ha! I saw the same thing, just as they cut to commercial. Looked like as Kassian was being taken away the guy yelled something about him being a #####. Kassian's feelings were hurt and he stared the fan down.
I never saw him get ejected or anything though from the TV screen, unless ppl in the arena saw something additional.

I thought we were the better team in the third still. We hit two posts and Bennett very nearly got a goal in the third to put us multiple ahead. Talbot made a few great saves but I didnt feel like we were really in jeopardy. The kassian penalties and the power play goal really demoralized the oilers. What a moron lol

My favourite moment from Hughes's call was in the first period when McDavid took the puck behind the Flames goal he asked without any tempered enthusiasm and practically gasping for air:
"What's he going to do now?!"
As if expecting some display of shack and awe.

Agreed....if Monahan puts away his usually automatic chance...we ride out the 5-3 game and laugh at how pathetic the trailing effort from the Oil was. It only felt close because one unlucky bounce would have tied it.
PS: I am loving the lockdown. While I would like the team to open up some runway...this is how you win down the stretch. I think one of these nights playing like this we will catch a team napping and blow them out...but a consistent machine like approach to winning is what this team needs to do.

Anyone else have inverted flashbacks of playoffs past last night against the ducks?
While the opposition is frothing for revenge and payback...we walk away with two points. I am hoping that this is a sign of growth for the core and makeup of the team.

I thought Hughson was in top form last night. He really is an expert at his craft and it’ was a nice change to hear him call a BOA. He also said “what’s he gonna do now” when Johnny had the puck just before he scored. And Hughson isn’t wrong, when 97 has the puck I’m also thinking great what the hell is he gonna do now!!

They all make Eric Francis look like a Pulitzer prize winner.
You can even extend it to their TV crew of Gene Principe, Kevin Quinn, and Drew Remenda who are all equally amateur-hour.
Compare their crew of embarrassments to actual professionals like Scott Cruickshank, Darren Haynes, Kristen Anderson, Wes Gilbertson, Jermain Franklin, Ryan Leslie, Rick Ball, and Kelley Hrudey. It's completely night and day.

I've always felt the Oilers media guys are a part of the reason of years of terrible teams. Not a big reason, but they tend to suck up all the time and never call out anyone.

I am not a huge fan of Hughston...but I don't think he is biased. The point of the announcer is to tell a story. For every game he picks one and he focuses on it to write it for the bulk public. If you are a hockey purist and want someone to analyze the possession numbers live as play is going, you won't get that from Hughson.
Going into last night (prior to the Tkachuk/Kassian shenanigans)....the story was McDavid against a balanced team. The reality about the Oilers is that the only story they have is McDavid and maybe the points race with the German. Once the shenanigans started...Hughson started a secondary narrivite around Kassian and Tkachuk.
Like it or not, but the bulk public (especially on a Saturday night), wants a story. This needs to have characters, conflict, overcoming adversity and a final outcome. Hughson does this quite well. An analysis of Derek Ryan vs RNHs defensive prowess does not appeal to the bull public.
Rick Ball in contrast is a great announcer and can honestly do both. On a Wednesday night game...only the hardcore fans are watching. A discussion on streaks, consistent play and profiles on the whole cast of characters is more appropriate. On Saturday night...a story is more appropriate. Let me get off my soap box by saying that the donkey they usually have doing the late game on Saturdays can do neither well...

After the way that game played out it would be so fitting if the oilers miss the playoffs by two points.

This is most baffling to me: A suspension for what, exactly?
Take another look at all three of Tkachuk's hits on Kaveman...
· Did he charge? No. Each and every time Tkachuk caught Kassian either in the chest or shoulder.
· Did he target the head? No. As mentioned, each time he hit him in the torso. The first hit caught Kassian in a vulnerable position, but only because the idiot's head was already level with his waist for some reason.
· Were the hits late? No. Kassian still had the puck each time.
The calls for penalization are simply idiotic. Tkachuk is a world class hockey player with a world class hockey IQ.
