Don’t see what one has to do with the other
The Flames could have had Stone but didn’t want to give up Valimaki

Imagine the cap situation if they signed Stone to the deal Vegas gave him?

Based on the rumors last year I wonder if one of the Flames plans was Reeves and Maroon but when Reeves fell through they went all in on Neal?

And with no Valimaki playing D on a cheap deal.

Could see Pavelski signing with the Preds if they miss out on Duchene

Kind of surprised we haven’t heard anything about Pavelski and Montreal. They’re another team looking at Duchene but I would say their chances of getting him are much lower than Nashville’s.

Depends. Duchene grew up a Habs fan, no?

Avs, IIRC. Wasn't he the one they said had a Sakic poster over his bed growing up?

His family are long time Habs fans. He switched over to the Avs after the Roy trade.

ANy chance the Flames could make a play for Zuccarrello, or will he be too far outside their cap room?

Yeah, they definitely can't afford him. I suspect he'll sign with Colorado on July 1.

Dallas wants him but didn’t like his price.

Calgary really can’t afford any UFA’s that are sought over.

Is there a cover charge to enter your “Salary Cap Doesn’t Exist” fantasy world?

We’re struggling to fit everyone in right now and have to shed assets to make the numbers work...and yet you think the Flames would have added Stone if the ‘asking price’ was more palatable.

He would have only been a rental if he was added last year.

My point was simply that the reason they didn’t acquire him is because of what they would have had to give up
I didn’t even say anything about signing him
But you are in such a rush to argue with me about anything it doesn’t matter

Painful

Your point was that they didn’t want to give up Valimaki. They didn’t want to give up Valimaki for a rental they could never fit into the cap on a long term deal.

The poster you replied to has a valid argument and your rebuttal made absolutely no sense

No they didn’t. Neal has nothing to do with Stone. Cap space isn’t the issue. Which is what “reaves instead of Neal” implies.

Cap space isn’t the issue?

There is no point arguing with someone who claims up is down, black is white and the sky is red.

The original poster is spot on

I’m not sure I understand, a little more explanation would help.

So did you want Stone purely as a rental?
Or
Did you want Stone to be a rental then sign a deal like he had with Vegas?

Its easier to make a move for a piece like stone when you have the space to sign him long term. Think Tre woulda pushed harder for that trade if he could have made the money work.
