You lost me as soon as you said Brodie to the top RD spot. People gripe about Hamilton's give a crap meter and you want to put a much lazier player in his spot? Brodie for the past two years is the definition of not giving a crap.
Lazier? Come now. I understand you're no fan of Brodie. But neither player is lazy. neither. Dougie takes bone headed penalties that can be construed as lazy type. Brodie's been weak on the left side since he got there. But can hardly be called lazy.

Lindholm - you're getting a pretty good 40ptish center/RW. He was riding shotgun with Aho - Staal the whole second half of the year. Considering the numbers the other two guys put up this year, it's hard to see Lindholm putting up too much more with Calgary.
Hanifin - wild card here. He hasn't really shown he can play top4 minutes. I don't really think this is Seth Jones situation. Looking at the Carolina boards, he's been playing bottom pairing D and hasn't really been able to supplant two similar aged players in Pesce or Slavin. Furthermore, IF and that's a big IF, he reaches his upside, he's essentially a D. Hamilton type player.
Why would we take on all of the risk for trading a bonafide top2 D for a 40pt W/C and a player that may or may not be as good as D.Hamilton in a few years?

Yeah my guess is Dreger misspoke / misread a script and at that moment meant to say "WILL Dougie Hamilton be traded?“ because he immediately followed it up with suggesting its a possibility.
Typo on the teleprompter.
Based on how well the various insiders have been at predicting what the Flames will give up to acquire a player, I expect it to be Brodie going the other way, if a deal happens.

Because we might get two players who the Flames believe have yet to reach their potential for one they believe already has.
I'm not saying I agree, but if the Flames believe they are getting two players who they think will be better in the along run, that would be their thought process.
I don't like trading with bad teams as a general rule. I understand that good players exist on bad teams, but over the years the Flames seem to love trading with teams like Arizona. Florida, Ottawa, NYI, and now possibly Carolina.
Perhaps it's irrational, but if Carolina had been successful for the last few years, these same players with the exact same stats would be much more appealing to me. Likely also wouldn't be available! But still more appealing. I guess that I use team success as a pseudo-marker of the 'intangibles' that we always talk about.

IF Hamilton does get traded, it's not going to be solely because he is the player that can command so much in return. You don't trade a defenseman with skills like that on a good contract unless there are some other reasons.

This rumored deal does check a box for the required Hamilton trade which would be getting similar aged but preferably younger players in return. The other bonus is receiving a Dman as part of the return. The problem with the deal is not getting a sure fire top 3 forward in return which I think is a big need and Hamilton could get us that.
Looking at the players rumored to be in return.
Lindholm- 23 year old right shot C/W. Those that are saying he has hit his ceiling must forget that Swedes can take longer to hit their stride. The Sedins, Backlund, Naslund etc. so there can be a reasonable expectation Lindholm could still be a better scorer.
Hanifin- a 21 year old Dman that was highly touted coming into the 2015 draft. He has been solid but underwhelming and passed by other young Dmen in Carolina.
Ultimately neither of these players have lived up to their 5th overall billing or they wouldn’t be on the block. I wonder if that is enough for Dougie?
If the deal was expanded to include Bennett and Skinner that would be really interesting.

Really? How many times do we see Brodie smack the puck off the boards and out rather than try to make a play? How many times have we seen the other team break up the ice and if Brodie was up the ice on the play he skates half assed back. People argue he skates really good so it can't be a speed issue. In order for this team to win they absolutely need to get rid of TJ Brodie.
Another potential addition the flames could look at is Martin Frk from Det. Sounds like they're not going to qualify him. 24 years old. Has done that marinating thing Tree loves.

All three are mid 20's right shot wingers that put up solid AHL numbers. They are all guys that should be looked at as potential diamonds in the rough.

It definitely sounds like the Flames are going after these types of guys. Mentioning they probably won’t be after the big free agents but will be active in the market
He took over 800 face offs last season, so I assume he was playing mostly center. (55% FO% the last two seasons on almost 1500 total face offs too BTW)
Lindholm played very predominantly right wing, although he took a lot of draws.

Hamilton+Bennett for lindholm+hanifin+skinner sounds like a good offer to me.

Don't know about the other two but Griffith is a tweener, nothing more. He got a legit shot in Florida in the top six two years ago and was just too weak and slow for the nhl.
