What exactly does Gelianas contribute, aside from checking the "legacy" box?

he was the "eliminator" -- frankly, I don't mind him either way. If he stays, that is okay. If he is gone, thats okay too.
He might be a good tandem with D.Sutter if they bring him in.
Sigalet and Cameron need to be gone for sure.

If your approach to the problem of trying to go through a brick wall is to stand 12 inches in front of it and punch it as hard as you can, the repercussions of each attempt will vary, but the end result will always be that you don't get through that brick wall.
You might skin your knuckles, break your knuckles, break your wrist, etc, but unless you stop after each failed attempt, evaluate what you learned and use that knowledge to modify future attempts, the end result will continue to be failure.
I suspect you're confusing repercussions with results.

They should just do a clean sweep of all coaches and start fresh.

I think a clean sweep is the only way to go.
If they go for an established "high end" guy like JQ, AV, or Trotz those guys will want to bring in their own staff.
A clean sweep just costs money - and not much if media is accurate about GG being one of the lower paid guys.
I can't imagine a scenario where BT keeps GG but lets go of individuals like Cameron or Siglet and tells GG to find better.
Best start fresh.

He seems like a guy who has a bit of a presence about him that may be lacking in the head coach...but other than that, who knows. It does seem like a hire based on legacy.

Yep and this shouldn't exactly be a shock to him. Other than one great stretch this year has been a write-off.
He had plenty of time to make adjustments to systems and lineup, but he kept doing the exact same things over and over regardless of result. I don't feel sorry for him, he is the master of his own demise.

After an atrocious season, I'm truly excited to watch this coaching staff get the boot.
I am always one of the first to say that you never wish personal ill on a player or a coach. That being said, I genuinely hope that GG never gets a sniff at another coaching position in this league again.
He has sucked all joy out of my valuable entertainment hours for almost two years now. I feel a personal burden will be lifted once he's gone.

Not me. If that person can't deliver the goods, I would rather they be replaced as soon as possible. Cut your losses.

Also in my chat with said source (and also not a big surprise), McLelland wants out of Edmonton bad. He has stated that its a job no one should take while the 'old boys club' runs the show. Bringing in Coffey was the last straw for him.

This one is not a shocker, you can tell he wants to get out of there quick.

He just needs to coach like GG.

Personally, I think McLelland is the kind of coach that these kids here in Calgary need. I would have him with open arms.

If they fire Sigalet they shoud try to get Sean Burke in as goalie coach, he seems to have a good track record, apparently he washed the oiler stink off of Dubnyk.

Burke is the GM of Hockey Canada. His coaching days may be behind him for now.
