And yet I couldn't go to one because I have a tattoo....how progressive of the Japanese.

I think it's wrong to cancel this event, as long as they are allowing other groups to book the pool for events.
I also think it's strange that people think they should just make it 18+. My understanding of nudists, is that they just think it's a normal way to be. So if you think that, why would you not take your kids to a swimming event? The only people who would think it's "wrong" to take their kids to this event are ones who see being naked as sexual or wrong in some way.
Some people think hiking is normal and take their kids out in the mountains to engage in that activity. Others might think it's dangerous, due to possible wildlife encounters. Should those people be able to get a family hike banned?
I kind of hope there is a lawsuit, so that it can be determined what people's rights are in this situation. A vocal minority shouldn't be able to dictate what another group does.

The difference here is they invited and sold tickets to the general public. It's not just a nudist group who all know each other and do this every other weekend. I promise you some people who bought tickets do not share the non-sexual ideology on nudity. I personally know some dude Bros who bought tickets and there was certainly some "lockeroom talk" about the event...this is before the petition. Could be why I have a different view than most IDK.

This whole situation and what came of it in the end is rather pathetic. The amount of "I don't like it so nobody can have fun" mentality in this city is staggering. Personally thought it was a bit strange that minors were allowed but to shut the event down because of some prudes is laughably sad. Guess the simple "don't like it then don't go" mentality wasn't an option...

But that is probably true for anywhere you go. The parents aren't sending their children over there alone - they are going with them and supervising. And if the parents are careless about that, they probably are in other situations as well.

I think it says more about social media than about this city. A nudist organizer from Toronto was on the CBC today and he said the difference between this and other events was promoting it on Facebook. I suspect most of the people who signed the online petition don't even live in Calgary.

Couldn’t they of made some strict rules to help combat these bros and there locker room antics? If they made people uncomfortable they get kicked out sorta thing.

Fair enough, could change city to province or country. Still pretty sad either way.

I get the feeling that if your dudebros actually went, and if they were brave enough to actually head out of the locker room, and if they acted like that around the pool...they'd have been kicked out about as fast as they got there.

I'm sure they would throw them out if anything noticeable happened...just an example that not everyone there views nudity in the way the organizers intended. The way they marketed it seemed to be looking for a different crowd than your everyday nudist IMO.
For future events there are a few small things that could be done differently...they should probably be more careful what they post on their facebook page. Like I said before its pretty hard to lecture people about nudity not being sexual when on your own facebook page you are using some imagery that conflicts with that message. Facebook is free, maybe start a different group/page for the more riskay stuff...I know that was a concern of the city.
Just my opinion...take it or leave it

It's like the first Naked Girls Reading events. There was one guy who seemed to think he was attending a strip club.
He seemed to quickly get the point that nobody else at the event was acting like a boor and that the purpose was to celebrate body positivity and acceptence. And i don't think he's attended since.

Lol. Dude bros bought tickets to a naked swim at the wave pool instead of paying cover at Roadhouse. I suppose we should be worrying.

Right, but it has nothing to do with kids being there. The tattoo thing was because of the yakuza presence and the possibility of friction between clans. But hey, veer off topic for the sake of being heard somehow, right?

The main theme under debate isn't 'inclusiveness'? Fooled me.

I think the main themes have been the connections between nudity, shame, sexuality and pedophilia.
If a bunch of prudes like the japanese can get naked in mass and it's no big deal, then anyone can.

Everyone should get beige swimsuits so it looks like you are naked.

I'm surprised that the city caved on this. I do wonder which other events will see push back in hope of the city pulling their permits. The pride parade? Regardless, its a slippery slope now and will be interesting to see how it goes.
