Deion Sanders on NFL network: "What was that fool thinking?!" proceeds to stagger around set bent at the waist... "What was that ?!"
not sure what Williams was thinking, but like Deion was saying, all he needed to do was a basic football play... heck, he didn't need to light him up, he just needed to bear hug him and time would have expired.
Worse part was, not only did he completely whiff on the tackle, he took out the other Saints corner who might have had a shot to tackle Diggs...
That was a Leon Lett like gaff, forever to live in NFL highlights...
Of course! The Saints always ensure they lose complete heartbreakers that live forever in infamy, so we're forced to re-watch them over and over again in highlight shows forever. 2010 - Beast Quake, 2011 - Smith to Davis, tonight...it's how they do it

Totally the same as I was thinking. You stopped Diggs and let the time run out. Vikings doesn't have a timeout.
The sad thing is, Crawley is in great position to make the tackle until he's taken out by his own man. My New Orleans Saints, always finding new and interesting ways to lose.
I had zero expectations for them this season, but, what a way to go out.

Did anyone else yell for Diggs to run out of bounds right after the catch?? Never would have thought he would be home free after that catch and turn. The collision by the FS and corner seemed to be an attempt to avoid PI, so maybe people are being too hard on them.

I was, I was yelling at the idiot to step out so there was time for the field goal.

That was my exact thought at the time too. Quickly turned to elation. My brain actually took a minute to realize what I just saw. Very similar to the ending between Winnipeg and Edmonton back in 2006 when Stegall caught a 100 yard TD with no time left. One thing is certain, that must have been a great game to watch as a neutral observer.
I was on a booze cruise in Cabo, watching a humpback whale crest right in front of the boat as the Vikings scored to win that game tonight. It happened simultaneously! I still dont quite know what to say. What a great day.

Williams owns up to his mistake
Quote:
"The ball was in the air. I didn't go attack it. And he came down and made a great play, and that's just on me," said Williams, who had lowered his head and shoulder and attempted to drive toward Diggs' leg -- though he whiffed completely -- instead of contesting the ball in the air or waiting to wrap up Diggs after the catch. "I just gotta be that guy and go up and get the ball. As a safety back there, you gotta be the eraser. And that was my job. ...
"I feel like I was a little early [on my launch toward Diggs]. But at that point, I just gotta make the tackle when he comes down. ... There's only 10 seconds left. I knew the situation. You gotta make sure you make the play. ...
"If the play happened different, I would just go attack the ball and make that play."
As a team, ignoring the QB position, the Patriots are probably the worst team left. But since Brady is as good as the other three QBs combined, by a factor of at least two, this will be a pretty good test of just how much of a difference QB play can make.
Also, disappointed to see this many posts go by without someone saying "Marcus Williams was tackling Manti Te'o's girlfriend". It's the joke du jour on Twitter.

the Pats defense is a lot better than people are giving them credit for. They were horse#### to start, but have been a ton better the latter half of the season.
They'll have their hand full with a great Jags defense (that gave up 500 yards???!? to Big Ben) Should be a fun game to watch.

IDK. Once the Steelers lost, I felt like there was not one team left that can beat the Pats.
But, if Minnesota got to play the Superbowl at home, that would be a big challenge.
