I'm not sure how midget porn is relevant to the discussion.

I think plumbing might be a problem to convert commercial vacent space to residential. HVAC would also likely be a nightmare.
However it would be better than Sochi

Well there has been lots of chatter about converting them to residential, so some one must have looked at these challenges.

Is that completed towers? I know some are being capped at grade and converted but I hadn't heard of completed towers switching.

Ya, pretty sure they were talking about older less desirable office space. I think it was on CBC.

hanson seems to be blowing off the costs of security pretty easily. vancouver didn't cost that much for a security just because of a war. has he looked to see what's going on in the world lately?
Security costs would be at least as high as Vancouver, and likely much more.

Here is one of them:

Q: But most of these buildings weren't built for full time human habitation, how difficult is it to convert an office building into a residential space?
A: If you think about it, the main features that you need, plumbing, access to transportation is all there.
Developers found it was actually more difficult to modernize old Class C buildings to attract the needs of modern companies, than they did converting it into condo or apartment spaces.
With residential uses, you are at least getting something for that property.

I don't think we will see a AAA or AA tower in downtown getting converted anytime soon - especially for the olympics. I cannot imagine the cost to purchase it either.

The man who led successful opposition to Boston's planned 2024 Olympic bid just presented a 74 page slide deck to Calgary's 2026 bid committee, debunking the myths of the Olympics and presenting the true costs. Here are those slides.

Calls the Olympic bidding an 'Auction' and states that the IOC was never really behind Vision 2020. Interesting perspective, and good to know that the CBEC is getting information from both sides of the debate.

hahaha. His "Calgary Credentials" are hilarious.
-business school roommate is from Calgary
-hiked up Sulphur Mountain
-once met Calgary Royalty Jim Peplinski...
Did he lease a car from him too? Sorry for the derail. Couldn't read much more after that part.

I think he was being tongue in cheek...
It really doesn't speak much about the Calgary bid, but goes through the pitfalls of the Boston bid and the problems faced by the last few olympics

Every time I see the IOC demands or conditions, it always makes me want to bail on any potential bid. Not worth it to keep empowering them.

He lists liking a song as a credential, it's obviously pretty tongue in cheek.

Your resume doesn't list your top 5 CCR songs?
How do you know where to put your martial arts skills if you don't have a personal music favourites lead in?

Depending on whose else is bidding I like idea of giving the IOC a take it or leave type bid, especially if the Olympics prior to the bid are a disappointment

Take it or leave it bid won't work, IOC will find some dictatorship to give it to. You don't threaten the IOC, or go with take it or leave it offers. Best to not bid at all and then see what happens. Might be able to get the IOC to actually pay for some things if no one bids. Plus no one bidding has the potential to ruin the IOC, which we should all root for.

Good support and not very much opposition. It will be interesting to see once the details on the balance sheet become clearer.
