The one person MacLean says he never really connected with, however, was Stroumboulopoulos.

"It was always a bit quiet on that front," he says. "I don't think there was ever a relationship built." MacLean says he sent his colleague a text upon hearing of his exit. "Never heard back."

Moore promises traditional "HNIC" fans will find "a more comfortable show" this season with MacLean back in charge, adding: "I think he'll also make our panellists more comfortable."

I dont know, if I just got fired for what amounts to little or no cause I probably wouldnt want to chat with the guy who just took my job either.

I'd probably throw a polite yet snarky 'congratulations' his way, but that would likely be the extent of it.

I heard more whining and complaining about Strombo from the 20-35 crowd than anyone. Myself and that crowd grew up with MacLean and he's considered an institution by most. George is just the guy from MuchMusic and his interview show.

I am in your age range and I can't stand Ron.

I actually didn't mind George, at times he needed to tone it down a bit, but I found that he kept the discussion moving without blathering on and on.

Do you mean Strombo or Ron? Because the article explicitly states that Ron had thought HNIC would never come back and he'd moved on. Leno/Conan situation this is not.

Because it's a way to placate his own ego and try and snow everyone that he had nothing to do with Strombo's departure, when he most likely orchestrated it or played a large part in it.

He's only 56. Considering how long other broadcasters have stayed on the job (Bob Cole, Brian Williams, Dave Hodge, etc), another 10 to 15 years isn't out of the question for MacLean.

Bingo. Bringing in Strombo was a transparent attempt to appeal to my demographic by inexplicably placing an interviewer / music expert into a role in which he didn't fit. Most people in their 20s have a huge affinity for Ron and don't remember HNIC without him. Nothing against Strombo, but parachuting in the Muchmusic guy was a dumb move from the start.

No, moved on as in assumed he wasn't gonna do HNIC again. Read the article.

Do you have some sort of insider info that he was pushing to have Strombo fired or you just making it up? Seems like a bizarre and unfounded accusation.

No, he's just been around forever. He was still in his mid-20s when he took over as host of HNIC.

In fairness he hasn't been the "Mushmusic" guy for some time.

His show on CBC The Hour actually had some good interviews.

It has also resurrected After Hours, the show that followed the Saturday late game until Rogers axed it two seasons ago. That means a larger role for veteran reporter Scott Oake.
