Doing a Hartnell & 3 for 6 would be a massive steal. The Flames would be nicely setup going into next season and years down the road.

Hartnell provides a physical dynamic sorely missing on the Gaudreau-Monahan line. Not many people will mess with Johnny while Hartnell is on the ice. I see Ferland and Hathaway learning a ton from Hartnell too. Pollboy fits perfectly with Bennett. The LW position is kind of open on this line, but there are plenty of interesting players to audition, including Prybil who I do not have on the roster coming out of the gate. He would be a very interesting player to have on that line. The third line is going to be tough to contain. Lots of potential there. I'd love to see the 4th line completely overhauled, and both Bollig and Stajan sent packing, but I think we have to suck it up for a year.

That trade could set this team up in an incredible way.

Even then I wouldnt do it. That contract is so bad. It has the potential of really hurting this team going forward. I would much rather take bpa at 6.

Clarkson is too big of a price to move up.

Build around Hartnell.

For Columbus, they're all bad contracts. They know they can't move Clarkson. But moving Hartnell still helps them immensely.

It does, but Hartnell still has value. We are adding to 6OA to get 3OA and Hartnell IMO, and probably not insignificantly. Might be worth it, but depends what they want.

HELL No to Clarkson only way I would do if if we got there 1st for the next 3 years also .but they would not do that .like everyone else has said his contract is bad and it would hurt us bad .I love to see Hartnell and 3th for our 6th and wides or just 6th

If you break that down to:

3OA for 6OA + 2nd -- yes, every day of the week

Hartnell for Backlund -- jeeez... I don't like it much.

That probably means its fair. But we strip away our center depth, get older, and acquire a bad contract. We get slightly more "black and blue". And we get the best asset in the deal.

Suddenly the 3rd line center role next year is a gaping hole, but the top 6 is set for the next two years:

Gaudreau - Monahan - Puljujarvi
Hartnell - Bennett - Frolik

Our 3rd line is substantially worse, though.

I'll sacrifice the qualtiy of the third line in favor of making the top line way better in the long-run. Plus Backlund is approaching UFA status.
Perhaps Jankowski is the 3rd liner centre in the long-run, or you find that piece elsewhere.

Top talent wins you rings. The Flames need more of it.
