I think a big bounce back year in Brandon is just the ticket

Plus there is the possibility of Sieloff playing more at forward too.

edit - read that wrong, saw it as certainly not, rather than not certain

Great! So he's out of his contract in Sweden.

If Kylington is assigned to the CHL, can he be brought back up to the AHL midseason as he's not originally a CHL player?

Will be interesting to see what Calgary, Oliver, and AIK figured out here. Swedish players are often signed by NHL clubs just to be loaned out back to their Swedish club. I assume Treliving will let us know later today where he is going.

No, he can sign an ELC and still be under contract in Sweden because his ELC hasn't started.

No, he would be available for emergency recall only.

I don't believe so. They don't have to assign him to the CHL because he wasn't drafted out of the CHL, but I believe if they do send him down, he's there until Brandon's season is done.

Are you sure? I posted a Treliving quote that says the exact opposite. We'll get context to all of this real soon regardless.

Great. He doesn't seem like the kind of guy who would get intimidated by playing in North America or having it be a big adjustment from home. Get him here and playing in Brandon and let's see how far he can go.

Calgary Flames ‏@NHLFlames
If Kylington doesn't play in Calgary, his playing rights revert back to his Swedish team as their first option.

Balls, I got excited too soon:

FYI: Kylington can be signed by the #Flames as per an #NHL agreement with the #SHL.

So, how does this affect say The youngstars tournament, rookie camp and main camp? I am assuming he gets to be here for all of that?

Is there a point in signing him now, if he's going to remain in Sweden this year?

Perhaps without this first step, the Flames wouldn't be able to bring him over to North America? If that's the case and there's no other advantage to signing him today, then perhaps the other pieces will fall later.

I'm not a lawyer and I haven't stayed at a holiday express recently but maybe "revert as first option" is the key. There could be an agreement where they opt out allowing him to go to the AHL or WHL.

Is there any chance his Swedish contract can be void? Maybe they'll release him or something so he can stay in NA. There has to be a reason for things to go this way.

It's not unthinkable that he makes the Flames roster.

Everyone should go a few pages and read the process. You can negotiate a transfer until he's signed by the Flames, that's step 1

From our resident expert

The fee is $240k US for the first 10 players the NHL signs out of Sweden or $325k US for any player after the first 10.

However there may be a deadline this summer (not exactly sure when) as to when the Flames can still pay the transfer fee, or Kylington stays in Sweden for the year.

The problem is however the 2nd part of the agreement where the Flames must offer Kylington back to AIK before assigning him to the CHL or AHL because he isn't a 1st round pick. This is where the Flames can get screwed in paying the transfer fee but Kylington still ends up playing in Europe.

So what AIK wants is the whole crux of the situation and if Kylington is penciled in to be their top pairing, they won't let him go easily.

Also talk of additional compensation is moot. The NHL will not allow a team to pay more money than what it already negotiated with a hockey federation, as it will undermine the whole transfer agreement.

^ it's extremely unlikely. Like less than 1% IMO. Making the roster, that is.
